Together we can help the less fortunate people in any way that we can afford to do so.

Falling out amongst ourselves does the opposite of helping but puts barriers up.

Make 2018 the year we try to be nice to each other and not to fall out. Please.

That's a noble sentiment Jan and who could argue?

Unfortunately though I think you're being New Year idealistic. There will always be an element of rancor on some threads (by far the minority here) in these forums. Personalities and strongly held views. If you want to test it out try - after suppressing the gagging instinct - saying something nice about Donald Trump. Very Happy Or, perhaps posting "I think Brexit is a wonderful opportunity for the UK". Shocked

I don't think TBH it's too bad in here though. Usually the more contentious threads get sidelined to the "Debate" (euphemism Very Happy ) section. If you look, the last post there was a month ago.

As far as charity goes, each will do as they feel compelled to - or not. In my case, in a world where almost 30,000 kids under the age of 5 die from preventable factors every single day, I don't see the guy on the pavement in a sleeping bag with his dog/cat (Bob!) as a priority. That's not to say I would denigrate those who actually do something about it.

Good ole Pete! Who would have thought a tough old taxi driver/haulage veteran like him would be helping out with the food banks. Very Happy

I am not interested in your charitable works anymore than you are in mine I expect.

As for spiteful ? barbs . What do you expect when you post as you did ?
Does it matter how much is spent on the goods you mention ?
The fact is , that there are people out there in need and all Pete was pointing out was that their needs went a bit further than some realise .
You do come across as pompous , as I do spiteful to you . Perhaps both are reading the other wrong ?

I wasnít fortunate. I came out of a 1950ís ghetto and worked for what I got. A long, greasy pole for a Cockney kid.

Iím not sure what was so offensive. I just pointed out the apparently absurd conundrum of their being food banks in a country where tens of billions are spent pretty much on frivolous luxuries. If you havenít been to the likes of India you should try to visit. It would give you a new standard for ďin needĒ. A bit of well directed help there can actually save lives. Perhaps you already know that though.

As for pompous. Your not the only one to say that. Very Happy However, thereís never been a hint of silver spoon. Iím just well (self) read. If you came from the ass-end of Glasgow (?) we probably have a lot more in common than you suspect. Your pop at cruising was clearly aimed at me though.

Apologies for the cruising remark . Yep if sounds like we are cut from the same cloth . Truce ?

Thank you Scottie and yes, of course. There was a time when we were quite friendly in here. I think it went wrong quite some time ago over something to do with the SNP. Very Happy

Sorry here but.................................. Wink Very Happy

I was just thinking the same thing but could not remember what did it . Yes we did have a very good rapport at one time. 😉

Me and my little girl also donate to the Salvation Army and guide dogs
And donkey sanctuary and the Red Cross that to us is not charity
But in a small way helping people who are not as fortunate as us
Because we both realise life smiled on us two
Be lucky
