There are still Dreambox suppliers out there but they are very much closed groups, this lot must have gone a bit to public.

I remember, what must have been about 10 years ago, during what seemed a regular “my dish is bigger than yours” thread on Cyprus Living, saying that in the not too distant future they’d all be so much scrap metal. You’d be getting all your TV down the phone line. IIRC there was the Forum equivalent of a chorus of belly laughs. I felt like a “The End is nigh!” sandwich board man. Crying or Very sad

They’re not laughing now though. Oh no! Cool Laughing Wink

A later report doesn't specifically mention Dreambox and it seems like
it was a sophisticated set-up - it has been updated again:

There is an increasing effort by the authorities on cracking down on those illegally "rebroadcasting" subscription based channels....it is a multi million pound business funded by those subscribing to them. Organisations like Europol and FACT are working with legitimate providers to close down "providers".

A police operation is currently underway to combat the illegal use of Dreambox decoders with two arrests made in Larnaca so far.

According to initial reports in the Cypriot press, Police raided the Larnaca premises of a business who had allegedly been providing a service relaying dozens of TV channels to customers. These channels included Pay TV channels providing sports content, films, documentaries as well as Greek television channels.

The Dreambox is a series of Linux-powered DVB satellite, terrestrial and cable digital television receivers (set-top boxes), produced by German multimedia vendor Dream Multimedia. Unofficial third-party software can be used in conjunction with these boxes and those relaying content to allow viewers access to Pay TV Channels without the necessary subscription. Dreambox does not endorse or support the use of third party software and its installation voids the official warranty.

It is reported that the police investigation was instigated following a complaint by Nova Greece to the EU for illegal use of a trademark.

The operation is being conducted across the Republic of Cyprus, investigations are continuing and further arrests have not been ruled out.

Does not make me dream on Granville, but for sure it gets under your skin, get a life move onto something you actually understand, have you nothing to add to living in Polis? surly this is what forums are for, not trolls. Rolling Eyes

As far as I am aware nobody I know now uses a Dreambox unit as Sky do not broadcast out here, I guess you have no idea of this system, long before your limited time on Cyprus.

Your wrong as usual on this matter. If you want my old unit, it's yours, free.

Regardless of the device, it is still being reported in the Cypriot press as
such, then what they appear to have been arrested for is the illegal
distribution of content.

Let's leave it at that.

Jim....look I will explain this as slowly as I can. It. Is. Not. The. Providers. It Is. Not. The. Companies. It Is. Broadcasting legislation. It. Is Copywrite law.

I know it's difficult to understand.....but please try harder....and you know why the authorities are clamping down on the illegal provision of subscription channels....because it generates millions for criminals....duh....

A confusing article - is this about people using Dreamboxes or IPTV streams?
