If you're bored with the carp on TV and want to find something stimulating, take a look at 'Massive Open Online Courses' that are (as the name suggests) free, online courses, although you can pay a fee and get a diploma.
Courses can be of two varieties - self-paced and time-limited. The time-limited courses may be of (e.g.) 8 weeks, with two sessions/week which you can access at any time but you are expected to have completed a quiz for each session. The self-paced have no time limit, take as long as you want over the course but, once again, you are expected to complete a quiz before moving on.
Apparently there are 3,000 MOOCs starting this month, from universities around the world - but only 1,784 are in English - including Chinese for beginners, magic in the middle-ages, grammar and punctuation, global strategy I: how the global economy works, first aid for babies and children, the science of the solar system, the art of photography, the music of the Beatles, introduction to classical music, introduction to psychology, anatomy: know your abdomen, dog emotion and cognition, welcome to game theory, the Arduino platform and C, astronomy: the state of the art, etc, etc., etc.
A list of new courses is at

N.B., this is a list of new courses starting this month only and doesn't include currently running courses, nor courses that have run in the past and are going to be repeated.
