We are spending a night in Troodos village in October, and we are hoping to visit a winery in that region.
Despite a fair bit of research, we have a copy of the CTO winery trail, and trawling the internet, we cannot decide which would best suit our needs, and nothing beats a personal recommendation.
We are 4 adults, who would be hoping to buy some lunch or snacks while we are there, and would like to taste the wines, with a view to purchasing.
Are there any who have organised tours, or who are really set up for visitors?
Many thanks Carolyn
Given that I spent today doing exactly this (due to rain we opted not to go hiking but to drink wine instead...!) maybe I can help a bit.
I'm certainly no expert in the wine trails, but having visited four Wineries today in the Troodos environs and driven by or looked briefly at several, I guess I've seen a fair selection. None that I know of have a restaurant, but there are dozens in close proximity on the roads or village centres like Omodos.
I think the simple answer to your question is that there is no "single" one - you need to visit a few as they're all different and realistically you're not going to be at any one for more than an hour, if that. The ones we went to ranged from the rustic where we were met by the winemaker and tasted wine in their kitchen, to far more commercial setups geared more to tourist groups.
If you're looking for less rustic places, Lambouri, Ktima Gerolemo and Zambartas wineries (all easily findable on Google maps) would make a good little tour. All within 30 mins of Troodos .
