I agree Gerry...
It was a great gig last night....
Pity attendance was so low....
I fear that if these gigs are not supported locally the promoters will restrict these events to Paphos and ignore us here on the eastern side....

I have to admit that I am not a fan of the 'run of the mill' tribute acts.... I have seen most of them a zillion times over during my 13 years on the island.

I think that tribute bands such as the recent Bee Gees and Fleetwood Bac are of really high standards and the closest to the original artists that will be on available to us here in Cyprus at affordable prices, and I applaud the organisers.

These acts are real live vocal performers with their own instruments.... not pre-recorded backing from a laptop.

We have a very spacious amphitheatre right there in the middle of Paralimni with plenty of parking, a couple of bars for a pre-performance drink... or bring your coolbox with a bottle or two of vino or beer, sit back and relax and enjoy a brilliant evening... and have a boogie or two on the spacious dancing area...

I am really looking forward to the forthcoming UB40 event on 19th September....

It wasn't a Municipality event so not sure why they would be advertising
it. It was advertised elsewhere though and it's unfortunate that over the
years they haven't got the attendance that they have in other areas.

Cheers

Exactly the same problem in Paphos when we lived there and also the prices were outrageous.. Any LIVE performers were poorly supported whereas the masses seemed to support karaoke etc.

Whilst not quite of the same theme the event at Agia Thekla amphitheatre on 13 July costs only 5euros and will have "Jess and Friends" including The Oroklini choir and George Zomenis. A lovely venue for a picnic by the sea .

Tickets from Celebrations or contact Carolyn 99126424 or Jane 99782684. All proceeds to St Johns Anglican Church Deryneia

Hi SensibleBob....
I don't know what prices were/are being charged in Paphos or who the live performers are/were...

The prices I have seen for the tribute bands at the amphitheatre in Paralimni ranges from 15 euros to a maximum of 20 euros...
I queried the variation of prices quite recently with one of the organisers and understand that we need to bear in mind that these are LIVE bands.... often comprising of numbers between 3 to 5 band members..... each member of the band has to be paid, there is the transport of equipment from the UK to Cyprus, there are the (excellent) lighting and sound crew and any other 'backroom staff to pay.... and of course operating as a business as opposed to charitable events, the organisers also have overheads and expect to make a profit.... ( I do not know if the Municipality charges for the hire of the amphitheatre)

The recent Fleetwood Bac event was 18 Euros per ticket....
I personally think that is great value for money for the standard of entertainment....

The UB40 event will be at a slightly higher price of 20 Euros... but then they are a larger number of performers and equipment in that band....

Please Note>>>>> I do not in any way have any personal or business connection with these events.....

Mils

Never a fan of Fleetwood Mac so there is no way I would go to a tribute act of them just to see live music. Went to the Bee Gees one though, it is not always about cost but what peoples personal taste in music is/was. Maybe people were not interested in this particular band.

I am involved with one of the Event organisers and unfortunately we are very limited as to where we can advertise. I tried on here but the posting was taken off as it was 'promoting' the event. We can't put posters up around the villages and towns on the official Municipality sights without paying 5 euros per day plus VAT! Where else is there to advertise publicly other than in magazines and on Facebook, and not everyone is on Facebook. It is a big shame that we can't get more publicity which would of course attract more people as I'm sure a lot of people still don't know that there are such things going on.

So far as ticket prices are concerned, you also have to take into account the cost of hiring the venue!

The answer is for them to become a Sponsor for the minimal amount
it costs and then they can advertise freely. It would hardly be fair on
other businesses to do anything different as I am sure they would like
to advertise their businesses and events.

Cheers
