John Surtees CBE, the only man to win the Formula One and motorcycle grand prix world titles, has died at the age of 83.
Surtees, who won the F1 championship in 1964 to add to his 500cc motorcycle titles from 1956, 1958, 1959 and 1960, “passed away peacefully” on Friday after a short period in intensive care.
He was also the first man to win the Senior TT at the Isle of Man TT three years in succession.

Motor sports (motorcycle and F1) are my passion.
John Surtees was a 'one off'.
83 was a good age, and it was evident recently that time was catching up with him.
However he gave enthusiasts great pleasure over the decades. And tragically lost his 18 year old son Henry to the sport in a Formula 2 race in 2009 at Brands Hatch.
