Skydive Cyprus based in Dhekelia is looking to recruit more members to come along and learn to jump. Why not enjoy a new experience floating through the sky with much of Eastern Cyprus on view below you.

You can get full training in static line, free fall and Tandem. Previous experience is not required but the training is very thorough and the club is run with a strict code of safety.

There is a well equipped hall where a large range of Training Aids are used to prepare candidates for their jumps. Training is done under the British Parachute Association Rules and guidelines. Trainees are also able to take a course in the skills of Parachute packing.

Keen skydivers can progress to instructor and competition level.

Remember girls, you can do the training too; you just need to be reasonably fit and keen to experience a new sport.

Trainees are loaned club helmets overalls and parachutes for their first jumps. Those who progress into the sport soon buy their own kit, helmet cameras and cool sunglasses.

Even crumblies like me can do tandem jumps, it only takes a 20 minute briefing to become an underslung hero. It is quite an experience as you will get around 25 seconds of free fall before the canopy is opened under the expert control of your pilot. A second club member can also video your exit from the plane, the freefall descent and finally; your spectacular landing.

Though the Club is Based on the Military airfield and run under the wing of the Army there is no bar upon civilian or "foreign" membership. Many of the most experienced club members are Cypriots, another keen member is from the Ukrain.

Finally there is a very good after flying club (with a bar) which hosts many events throughout the season; families wives and girlfriends can join in.

If you believe the saying "if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again", then skydiving is not for you!

I've never been able to get my mind around the question of why apparently perfectly sane people voluntarily leap into thin air from a perfectly sound airplane ...

Mind, it's mostly men who do this, so maybe that explains it! Laughing Laughing Laughing

63 female skydivers in free fall formation. But you are probably right. Ladies are much more focused on risk, many husbands get their wings clipped as a consequence.
