I have for a long time been toying with the idea of an overland trip back to UK via up the eastern shores of the Med, Aegean and the Adriatic, starting with a ferry from Famagusta to Turkey.

This is the route often used by truckers from UK to Cyprus before the invasion.

I know that the TRNC port(s) are not recognised by the Republic, but as the car will stay in UK at the end of the trip it should not really concern them.

Cyprus has no regular passenger ro-ro connection with Greece and in my opinion will never forseeably create a connection to mainland Turkey in my lifetime.

Has any reader recently driven the route or parts of it through Turkey, Greece, Albania, Bosnia croatia and N Italy. The alternative would be to cross from Greece or Albania to Southern Italy and motor north into France.

Any suggestions?

Do Grimaldi still do a connection from Limassol to eastern Italy, if you want to avoid Turkey...?

I though one of the shipping lines had recently bought a ro ro ship and was hoping it would take mobile homes.

Did your route, from Greece, the other way round in 2006 and loved it but personally unless it's changed a lot I'd avoid Albania.

While you're there why stop at north Italy, turn left and head for St Tropez and Cannes then go north through France.

Much as I love Switzerland I avoided it because of currency exchange and would do so again through any ex Eastern Bloc countries who don't use the euro.

The only benefit of being in the EU today as it is is the fact you don't have to exchange your money at every border.
