Just a quick enquiry really.I am a volunteer for Prostate Cancer uk,and was wondering if there was a separate charity for this in Cyprus. Any information would be appreciated.

Not exactly a separate charity, but PASYKAF (The Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends) is a registered charity which runs specific awareness campaigns for both prostate and testicular cancer.

PASYKAF volunteers help with psychological counselling/support groups etc. but also with (free) transport for patients requiring treatment.

Perhaps worth contacting them?

Paphos set up its own PASYKAF support group

which fundraises for, and supports, PASYKAF island-wide

Their Committee consists mainly of expatriate British nationals, so perhaps they could put you in touch with individuals in other areas, and advise you about any prostate-specific fundraising, help and awareness programmes.

Many thanks for your reply.Raising money for Prostate Cancer in UK has really been going well and I just wondered how it would take off over here in Cyprus.

I go along with journo - PASYKAF is a charity that's worthwhile supporting.

My Rotary Club raised enough money to buy them a minibus a few years to ferry cancer patients between Limassol and the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre in Nicosia for treatment. And just a few weeks ago we bought beds and mattresses for their new cancer rehabilitation centre at Moniatis.

Two of my friends with prostate cancer have been helped - both were taken to the Oncology Centre for treatment. One of them sadly died as the cancer had spread - he received regular visits, help and treatment from PASYKAF nursing volunteers.

Regards,

I would imagine very well - perhaps fund raising for Prostate cancer in
association with PASYKAF. If someone stepped up to organise something then
I am sure it would be supported.

You can say a lot of things about Brits but as far as fundraising for
charities goes it is a source of pride when you see so many people pulling
together and the individual effort some folks put in.

Had a bit of a scare with this myself recently and it is something that needs
more promotion and education - can only be a good thing.

Cheers

Steve
