Was in Napa this afternoon and noticed the exchange rate in the sop next to traffic lights at end of Nissi Avenue was 1.32 and something but Niks Bottle Shop was offering 1.3750.Rip off Napa - shame on you.

That shop always used to give good rates but they have been relatively poor the last couple of years.
But if you really want to see 'rip off' exchange rates, check out what some of the hotels give!

other places in larnaca today were offering 1.3675 no commission. not really bad for a weekend bearing in mind the friday close of trading interbank rate. i don't think the low rate you quoted has anything to do with it being ayia napa campbell. plenty of lower rates elsewhere on the island and a neighbour in the uk says the rates were even less than that there.

No just checked and I can get 1.367 to the 1 delivered to my door free of charge in the UK, no commission, but I already did that when it was higher Very Happy courier delivered as well, don't have to go out looking...when you're in the UK just check money.co.uk and who's given the highest rates on the day online, easy peasy....

Yes Mr.Woodrow I am aware of the rotten rates hotels give - I was a tourist for forty years.
I was comparing Napa with Protaras because they are only a few Kms apart .

When in Cyprus or anywhere for that matter just check CF, present rate 1.3763 and transferred direct to your bank account no need to wait in for couriers. Got 1.4149 when it was higher. Even with the 3 euro fee still works out better than money.co.uk

Danny you can open an account with currencyfair( google it ) then transfer sterling from your UK account to your Cyprus bank account...it takes a little time to open account as you need ID etc, but once done you can use it whenever you need to....if you live in the UK as we do and own property in Cyprus it's handy to pay bills direct to service accounts or to pay for repairs etc which we've just done this month......if you have a guaranteed monthly income from the UK, while living in Cyprus, it's one of the best ways to transfer on a monthly basis, or when the rate suits you...

As we no longer live in Cyprus, we no longer use our BoC account. So we don't transfer direct to our account, just direct to other Cyprus accounts...

My input was purely because we are bringing euros with us from the UK to Cyprus soon to pay yet more bills....and buy one or two Keo's Wink we found that it's the same rate delivered to your door in the UK as it is in exchange kiosks etc within Cyprus, currencyfair though is different and is from account to account...always is good rates and 3 per transaction, there is no better....IMO.

It's quite common nowadays for UK tourists about to go to Europe to buy euros online and get them delivered free to their homes, a few get those pre paid cards for safety...

Our property in Cyprus seems to be a money pit lately... Rolling Eyes

Sorry as explained it is Currency Fair, to open the account you will need to scan certain documents and email them to CF. All in all it took me a couple of hours to open an account. That included the time it took for CF to verify the documents. You have to transfer money from your UK bank account to your CF account, this usually takes approx an hour to clear, you cannot exchange money directly from your UK account. I always leave money in my CF account to take advantage of the any rise in the rates available. Once you have exchanged the money you then transfer it to your overseas account, my account is with Bank of Cyprus. If I transfer the money before noon on a weekday it is usually in my account later that day, otherwise it goes in the next working day, does not seem to go in on weekends and bank holidays??? The fee you pay is only 3 euros no matter how much you transfer. I have used a few of these companies and IMHO these are by far the best. Any problems/questions have been dealt with swiftly by their customer service staff, I cannot recommend them highly enough..

I also recommend them and I didn't have to scan and send them any documents. I just provided bank account details, as requested.

Lets not tar all hotels with the same brush. I worked at one for 8 years retired 2 years ago the exchange rate was based on the fax received from the bank at 10am each morning. That's not saying all hotels follow same procedure but I expect most do.
