We recently went to Hobos for the first time since we have been in Cyprus (we have been here 5 years) It has been refurbished in the upstairs restaurant and is very "chic". Views across to the marina are lovely and the food is delicious. Not too pricey. Originally it was a steak house but now it has a really varied menu. We ordered a T bone steak and a Brie stuffed chcken Breast with a champagne sauce. Both were excellent. Local wines are average price but you can get a good choice of other wines for that special occasion. If you want to go over the weekend it is advisable to book as the upstairs restaurant is very popular. There is seating on the ground floor outside but you miss out on the lovely view. We will definately return.
We've never eaten at Hobo's. This is our favourite haunt in the mornings for a frappe and reading the papers.
Tell a lie, had a club sarny on one occasion and a waffle on another. Never had a proper meal there. One to do.
Not sure what it was called then but 20 years ago there was a small cafe on that spot. Had a coffee and cake whilst watching a monsoon raging outside, IIRC.
If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.
Qui docet discit.
Location: nice n sunny cold at night oroklini on the mossie breeding grounds
I'm not sure if it has changed hands recently but hobo's streak house and the downstairs hobo's were a different company .
I know the ground level cafe belongs to the pitza hut franchise group but not who owns the steak house .
I know the original owners of both parts before pitza hut took the cafe over a few years ago and as I haven't seen them anywhere near the steak house recently I presume they have also sold that ~~ possibly to pitza hut group again ~ I'll ask next time I'm there~ Although the original owners still own the games arcade next to Hobo's cafe and Replay games further down the front.
As a matter of interest the building is the old bus station for Larnaca town.
I've eaten in the top bit a couple of times but to be honest it's a little expensive when you only have a pension to live on.
The cafe part is patronised by English Cypriots during the school holidays which means that it's packed in the late evenings during July and August ~ as soon as the kids holidays have finished and they have gone back to the UK you can actually get a table and relax .
The food quality went down hill in the cafe part when pitza hut took over and it seemed the staff were very unhappy ~ it seems that things may have improved now but i must admit I have only had a waffle or ice cream and a frappe when I've gone there as I can find better and cheaper places to eat.
Have eaten in Hobos upstairs a few times and have always had a good evening. Friendly staff, good food and atmosphere. Prefer upstairs to down for the view and the atmosphere. Enjoy downstairs for a coffee but upstairs is better for a meal. Zam
