I thought I would put this posting up so that members can understand
some of the reasoning behind asking members to follow certain rules
when posting in the Items For Sale & Wanted section.
Hopefully if the reasons are clear then folks will understand and realise
that we are not asking just for the fun of it.
If you have several items for sale please do not post a separate topic for
each item rather create one or two topics and list them all.
There are 80 topics displayed per page at any one time.
Currently if you post an advert it takes around five days before it moves
to page 2. If people post separate topics for each item it simply pushes
another members advert off the first page faster and down subsequent pages
resulting in lower views for them and that's not fair. We have seen folks
posting 10 or 11 ads one after another and that simply annoys fellow
Please do not continually "bump" your postings. To Bump means to post
a comment to your thread so that it moves to the top of this section.
We ask that you do not bump your posting within seven days.
This includes posting things like - "still available" "first to see will buy"
"now reduced" "great price" etc etc.
If you wish to add additional information or change the price etc then
please click the edit button (top rhs) and edit your posting rather than
replying to your own topic. We have had people bumping there own
postings two, three or more times per day.
For the same reason as the one above. By bumping your own posting
continually you are pushing another members advert down the list and
that's not fair. Everyone should have a fair go and your items for sale are
just as important/urgent as the next members.
Adding Full Details:
When posting an item for sale please add as much information as
possible. This may include things like - New or Used, Age, Condition,
Price, Description, Your Location, Contact Details and if possible a photo.
You can find how to add a photo by clicking Here
You want to sell the item - right? Not much more I can add other than
to say if you want a quicker sale then add full details. We have had
people posting items for several thousand Euro consisting of a five
word description - would you buy on that basis?
Adding A Descriptive Subject Title:
When posting an item for sale it is good to start the subject with either
FS: or For Sale:
Then add what you wish to sell - i.e: FS: Acme 42" Television
Creating a topic with the title "For Sale" or "Television" will likely reduce
the number of views you get and it frustrates other members.
Private Ads Only:
It's FREE to sell on the forum - no commission, no sellers fee or final fee
or fee of any kind! However this applies only to Private Ads.
What is a Private Ad?
Most people are aware what a Private Ad is - if it's your own items that
you wish to sell then no problem.
However Private Ads do not cover buying items for resale, advertising
items from your business, someone else's business or commercial sales
of any kind. Nor does it cover people who are pretending to be private
sellers when in fact they are not. If we identify postings that do not
comply with this then they are removed and the members posting
Advertising on the forum is restricted to Forum Sponsors only.
In addition clearly it is not acceptable for people to pretend they
are private sellers when in fact they are a business - registered or
Negotiate/Haggle Via Phone/Email:
Sure everyone wants a good deal and there may well be some room
for negotiation with the sellers price. Please negotiate/haggle over
prices off the forum via email, phone or face to face.
Personally I nor many other members want to read that you can buy the
same or similar item somewhere else for 50 cents cheaper. If you are
interested in the item for sale then by all means buy or negotiate in
private. If you are not interested in the item then please do not spoil
the sale - if the item price is too expensive then it simply won't sell.
You can find a full guide to Selling & Buying in this section HERE
Both myself and the other moderators spend quite a lot of time per week
specifically on this section editing/removing postings etc. Whilst we want
it to be as easy as possible for people to sell their own items it has to be
fair for everyone. Most of the above is common sense really and there
shouldn't be a need to keep repeating it.
For your own benefit, for the benefit of other members and to assist
us we would appreciate your co-operation.
