A defender for Wolverhampton Wanders from 1955-1965, then played for Bristol City & Wrexham, where he stayed until 1990, during which time he was assistant manager, caretaker manager and physio. He was forced to leave the club in 1990 as he did not meet the new qualification requirements for club physiotherapists. In his honour Wolves & Wrexham played a testimonial match in 1991.
At Wolves he had the misfortune to be a defender at the time of Billy Wright and Eddie Stuart, only gaining a regular first team place when Wright retired. He helped Wolves to become League Champions twice, and also earned an FA Cup winners medal.
George died today at the age of 78 at his home in Wrexham.
