Sadly one of football's greatest referees passed away at home today at the age of 82.
He refereed over 1,000 games at all levels, including 100 international matches, whilst running a butcher's shop in Wolverhampton.
Noted for the 1974 World Cup final when he became the first referee to give a penalty in the final (in the first minute).
He also refereed the 1966 Cup Final between Everton & Sheffield Wednesday and the 1971 Eurpean Cup Final between Ajax and Panathinaikos.
In 1999 he was inducted to the FIFA 'Hall of Fame' in Barcelona.

Great referee I remember him being miked up for a tv documentary we could do with a few of his kind around today. Sad loss to the game.
