URGENT MESSAGE FOR BRITISH NATIONALS BUYING PROPERTY IN CYPRUS

The date of the previously notified PICAS meeting has been brought forward by one day from Wednesday 31st October to Tuesday 30th October.

The venue remains as the Dhekelia Leisure Resort with a slightly later start time of 3pm for 3:15 pm.

The meeting is being re-scheduled to take advantage of a visit to Cyprus by Mr Stelios Kyriakides from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London. He has worldwide responsibility at the FCO for dealing with property issues affecting British nationals – and is also the main point of contact between the FCO and Members of the UK and European Parliaments.

PICAS has been asked by the British High Commission in Nicosia to help Mr Kyriakides get an informed insight into the practical problems experienced by British nationals when buying property in Cyprus. If you have any issues you would like to raise, Mr Kyriakides and the FCO would like to know about them. This is also an excellent opportunity to say what you expect the FCO to be doing for you.

As always, the main focus of the meeting is about providing support and guidance to those facing difficulties when buying or selling property in Cyprus. At the meeting on 30th October, our regular panel members will be in attendance to answer your queries.

Watch this space for further updates.

URGENT UPDATE ON 30 OCTOBER PICAS MEETING

URGENT UPDATE

We have been advised that Mr Stelios Kyriakides of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London will not be coming to Cyprus and will therefore be unable to attend the PICAS meeting on Tuesday 30 October.

We are in discussion to arrange for Mr Kyriakides to be at PICAS meeting in the early part of the New Year and will publish further information as soon as it becomes available.

At the meeting on Tuesday 30 October, the attendance IS confirmed of Zoe Woodward, Consular and Property Officer at the British High Commission (BHC) in Nicosia.

Zoe has direct contact with the British High Commissioner in Cyprus and Stelios Kyriakides in London, with responsibility for briefing them regularly about the concerns of British nationals engaged in dealings with the Cyprus property market.

Zoe advises that these briefings can better inform FCO understanding if people can provide her with specific and detailed information about how the problems they face have impacted them and their lives.

Essentially, the purpose of the meeting on 30 October remains the same, and we hope that the opportunity to present information to a UK government official will underscore the strength of feeling that lies behind many of the issues faced by people attending PICAS meetings.

If you are unable to attend this PICAS meeting and would like details of your particular property concerns to be forwarded to the BHC and FCO, please let us know.

You can email information via Forum members 'cyprussmoothie' ... 'baileyboysnowqueen' or 'nikcnet'.

Alternatively, you can visit the PICAS website at

All information received will be treated in the strictest confidence and passed directly to the British High Commission in Nicosia for attention.

Hi Nikcnet, many thanks for posting this and the information contained therein.

Of course we are all disappointed but these things sometimes cannot be avoided but nice to see that we are in negotiations with the FCO to extend the invite to early in 2013. I am sure that Zoe of the British High Commission will keep us informed. It will be good to see her tomorrow nevertheless and look forward to that part of the agenda.

As regards Notes of Meetings, i must admit these have been absent of late but this will be redressed as soon as possible. The list has now grown to virtually 100 so there is a clear need and this will be dealt with as a matter of urgency i can assure everyone.

what depressing news in the media at the weekend. Just under 5,000 businesses gone bankrupt, free food being handed out to the needy, some people finding their Swiss Franc mortgage almost doubled etc.
Does your bank guarantee up to 100.000 Euros of your savings?
Perhaps we could discuss how all these things could affect us at the PICAS meeting on Wed. 28th November at 2.30.

This message is to confirm that tomorrow's PICAS meeting is the last to be held this year - Wednesday 28 November. The venue is confirmed as our usual meeting place - the Dhekelia Leisure Resort

There will be NO meeting in December as our regular meeting date falls on Boxing Day.

If you have any questions about property ownership and living in Cyprus, tomorrow is an excellent opportunity to share your concerns with other owners and the PICAS panel in the lively Open Forum session.

At this meeting we will be joined by guest speaker Don Hutchison of Sumner Holdings Insurance Advisors and the principal of the company, Steve Sumner. Don will talk about the current financial situation and how it can affect individuals and their pensions, investments - and banking interests ... particularly those banks associated with Greece.

We will also be taking a look at how PICAS has developed since it was formed two years ago. If you have an opinion on how we have worked to support you ( or not ) please join us at the meeting and make your views known.

PICAS is run on voluntary effort and can only succeed if we are providing you with the support you need. If you have never been to a meeting or had sleepless nights wondering about what really goes on, here's your chance to find out !! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

We also work behind the scenes and beyond the public gaze to support people experiencing difficulties and provide information via the PICAS website:

At the end of the meeting there will be informal hospitality with drinks and snacks served - our way of saying 'thank you' for supporting not just PICAS but each other.
