Eaten there a few times, always excellent food and service.
Not tried the sheeps head yet though.

I have eaten there a few times in the last 10 years and I have to say that it has never been my favourite place. The last time we ate there, all 8 of us, complained about our food, it was too salty and we were told that that is how the locals liked it and just got a shrug and the waiter left us to it. We didnt even take the left overs for our animals because of the amount of salt in the food. By all means try it and hopefully you will have better luck thsn we did.........Maggie Larnaca

We have to eat low sodium diets due to high blood pressure.
In all the time we have eaten there we have not noticed an over-saltiness to any of the dishes we've had there. Believe me, we would notice.

We will be going again in a couple of weeks.

I know Militzis since the mid 90ies. It has a very good reputation which it always stood up to, imo. Haven't been there lately but in previous times there was never a reason to complain. Plus I like the location down there on that road (its called Hale Pasha I think) very close to the water...

Perhaps we were all unlucky the night we went with the overloading of salt. But I do stand by my statement about it not being my favourite place and it wouldnt do for all of us to like the same things. I'll give you that it is a nice place to sit etc, but I find their food a little on the ordinary side and whilst I wont say it is bland but for me it leans that way. Have a good meal the next time you go and bon appetite........Maggie Larnaca

I wouldn't call Sheep's Head ordinary. Shocked It's the only place I've seen it on the menu.

Right.

Trish had the Tava (Lamb & Potato stew). She loved it! Just a hint - and I mean a hint - of salt.
I had the Kakoretsi (Lambs Liver and Intestines). Lovelly.

Still not tried the Sheeps Head. Maybe next time. (Or, maybe not!)
We will be back.

ok, went there last Wednesday and had a marvelous Kleftiko! Superb!
Meat as tender as it should be for a good Kleftiko. Perfect service as well, no complaints at all. Would always go there again. So my previous preference for that tavern was confirmed once more Smile

I went to Militzes in January as it seems popular during the summer months. All I can say is it was dreadful I ordered young lamb which turned out to be grissle, fat and bone - I should have complained or sent it back. Its quite expensive too - there are much better places around and about in Larnaca.

Hi Francesca, and welcome.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Militzis.
We've been a few times and not had cause for complaint.
We will go again.

As my place is just a few Min's walk from Militzis I do eat there often.

There are a hell of a lot of locals eat there so it naturally follows that the food will be to Cypriot tastes -- they don't really cater for European tastes.

But if you like Greek / Cypriot food then I can't think of anywhere better to eat.

I often go out with the intention of eating there but quite often can't get a table -- surely that shows the quality of food and service also the popularity of the place.

I can honestly say in the last 12 years I've not had a bad meal yet --- but as I'm married to a Cypriot I'm more than used to Cypriot cuisine and know what to expect --- although at times I do wish that my wife could produce meals as nice as Militzis serve.

Not a problem Ruth Laughing

When I met her she couldn't cook at all Shocked

She worked in a clinic in Famagusta from the age of 13 as a student nurse where all meals were made for her -- then in 1974 as a refugee from war torn Famagusta she came to live with her sister in the UK -- who also cooked for her -- so for the first couple of years we were together ( if not more ) I had to cook and teach her to cook as well with the help of some Cypriot cook books Rolling Eyes .

When we were both working we shared the cooking part and over the years she has become an excellent cook but not up to Militzis standards though Sad

Is the lamb actually lamb or are they trying to pass mutton off like so many others do in this country. We have had many lamb kleftico here in cyprus and have been very disappointed when its arrived on our plate. I ask because i notice they do sheep head.. My question is.. What do they do with the rest of the sheep after they cut off the head., is it crazy to maybe assume they might be serving that sheep to you disguised as lamb?

I have never been too impressed with Militzes. We went for a meal there last Friday, the food was ok, meaning not bad, but nothing to get excited about. We found the service awful, it was as we were imposing on the waiters by turning up to spend our money. Probably won't go there again.

I couldn't agree more, Bill!

We didn't go this year for a variety of reasons, but we passed it a few times, always busy, always plenty of locals.
