Found a very good optician in Paralimni Makis Eleftheriou on 1st April St nearly opposite Scandia for my 2 yearly checkup. British qualified. The test was the full test including the glaucoma puffer. But it became apparent just a short way in to the test that I had a problem with my left eye. He phoned the Lito eye docter and sent me round straight away.

That docter saw a retinal bleed and scarring from another bleed sometime ago Shocked He then referred me to a retinal specialist in Larnaca three days later, the specialist there saw the same and was able to put my mind somewhat at rest.

I have lost sight permanently in my left eye, only centrally though, I can see all the periphary which is good and my left eye although shortsighted is fine and enables me, unless you cover that one up, to see much the same as before.

The previous eye test I had in Cyprus two years ago is not at fault at all, what happened could have been picked up earlier IF I had gone maybe once a year there were no symptoms, but the Harley St specialist Cool I saw told me that more regular eye tests as you get older are important, you don,t need to get new glasses just have an eye test. The problem is purely me and a weak eye from a previous high myopia for many years corrected by laser surgery at a hospital in the UK 10 years ago. The laser surgery by the way is nothing at all to do with this it is a weak problem at the back of the eye and degeneration has made it worse.

The cost, though this for me was NOT important at the time was 35 at Lito and 100 in Larnaca and I have a great photo of the inside of my bad eye. Cool

The reason I posted was really to say I was very well taken care of, very fast, and the optician even phoned me up to see how it all went! fantastic service. OH has now had to cough up for some great new glasses and sunglasses and did,nt moan at the price Cool Very Happy

Regular testing for us slighty older folk a must I think, at the same time I had a glucose test then a blood test for pressure and cholestoral all ok, and will watch for anyone now poking me in the good eye Wink And remember to wink now with my left.
