Bloomberg: EU to cut aid to Turkey over Cyprus EEZ violations

Bloomberg's Viktoria Dendrinou and Nikos Chrysoloras report that the
European Union is considering suspending most high-level contacts with
Turkey and cut the flow of funds in protest of the Turkish drilling activities in
the Cyprus EEZ.

Reportedly a range of measures will be discussed by EU ministers on

These measures are too small, insignificant, a waste of time and an insult to a member state. The RoC should be protesting in the most strongest terms and DEMAND more serious sanctions to bring Turkey to bear.

Turkey must be laughing her socks off over these.

I also notice that Trump has gone quite over Turkeys delivery of the S-400 missile system. Maybe he needs them for the next shooting season in Cyprus, perhaps he will shoot down some small birds!

It's a joke.

Duh!

The EU of course.

These piddly little bits they are suggesting will do no good, they need real economic busting sanctions to deal with the dictator Erdogan.
Don't you agree??

While I disagree with Turkey's violation of the EEZ if sanctioned expect Turkey to open the tap or rather the floodgates and let all those migrants in. Could be millions including the ones already detained in Turkey. While EEZ is a Cyprus problem mass migrating is a Europe wide problem. Plus ,of course, now it is the sailing season.

As we know from recent news hardly anything frightens governments more than a few score terrified , harmless migrants in boats (albeit many boats)

Sorry for not making my question clearer, but what other sanctions could the EU impose?

Seriously Kwacker, do I need to spell it out, seriously?

For start, they can suspend the customs union on Turkish products, make it harder for Turkish citizens to travel aboard, stop sending various goods to Turkey, pulling out investments from Turkey etc etc etc.

These ae the kind of sanctions I am talking about that will bring about change, otherwise we are just p*ssing in the wind.

Being a democratic body, the imposition of sanctions is determined by the Council of Ministers (e.g. May, Macron, Anastiades, et al).

Sanctions against Russia are a UN measure.
