it will depend on individual hire company's T's & C's, some companies do insist that a driver has held a licence for at least two years (its possible that your new licence will not show any longer dates than date of issue), make a copy of the one you are exchanging then that can help.
I was concerned about this possible scenario.. So I have today been in touch with Europcar..
They confirm that the rules are that you need to be able to show that you have held a valid driving licence for at least 12 months.. When you renew your Cypriot Licence it only shows a start date and an expiry date...
I asked what a person could do... I was told that they should bring as much proof as possible, such as the old UK licence.... Of course we know here that they are taken away from you...
But, in my case I do have a photocopy of my UK licence and of my previous Cypriot ones..
So I hope that I will be OK..
