A lady has lost her husband and needs to sell his Nissan Note,

She does not drive and cannot start the car, battery is ok, but she does not know how to start it.

Is there some special way , as putting the key in the ignition, a light comes on saying key?
The key fits in a sort of block in the ignition which does press inwards but the key does not turn. Does a button have to be pressed to start it ? Or is there some other method ? The car is in Park position and the gear stick,
does not move, presumably till the engine is switched on.

The car is automatic. Any help please,

Bob J

Have you tried to waggle the steering wheel whilst you have inserted the key and turning the key at the same time? in other words,is it purely the steering lock that is the problem?

Also press the brake and make sure hand brake is on, sometimes vehicles wont start without this, check the manual.

I don't know the answer, but here's a couple of things that might be helpful.
There's a mobile car mechanic - Nick - who is recommended on the Forum and also by someone I know. He's in Xylomtimbou, telephone 97738513. He might be able to tell you or come out to you.
Also, there's a Nissan service centre garage in Larnaca - Chr. Xystros Garage, telephone 24366022, they might be able to tell you. Or, the Nissan Dealership showroom in Larnaca, telephone 22418600 would maybe know.
One other thing, I've got an old Nissan Micra which fortunately is problem-free because the very thick handbook is entirely in Japanese!!

Hope that's of some help.

Thanks everybody for all your help. Think it is something simple, as car was working fine up until the owners unfortunate death. Could be, as you say , the steering lock, will try the jiggle of steering wheel tomorrow when I see this lady, a friend, tomorrow.

Thanks to all,

I have done a search for you - don't know your exact model but
from what I have read if a Green Key light is flashing on the dashboard
it means that the battery in the key is low.

Here's how to start it with a low key battery:

Quote:
If the battery of the NISSAN Intelligent Key® is discharged, or environmental conditions interfere
with the Intelligent Key operation, start the engine according to the following procedure:
1. Move the shift lever to the P (Park) or N (Neutral) position.
2. Firmly apply the foot brake.
3. Touch the ignition switch with the NISSAN Intelligent Key ® as illustrated. (A chime will
sound.)
4. Push the ignition switch while depressing the brake pedal within 10 seconds after the chime sounds. The engine will start.

Also whilst I am not sure of the model here is the user manual for the
Nissan Note: User Manual

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Steve

And just to add my two penneth .. We have a 10yr old Nissan Qashqai and sometimes the ignition button...or key.. will not turn... It IS in our case the steering that is preventing it.. I wiggle the steering and the key turns

As a separate issue to the starting problem, the car if registered to the deceased owner, it will be subject to probate and cannot legally be sold until his estate has been passed through the process. This can take a considerable time.
The car will also need to be taxed for this current year before it can be placed on SORN using the TOM 12 process. (It has to be insured and MOT'd)
Immediately......retax for 3 months using the online procedure. Then apply for SORN at the Transport Department. This will stop the ongoing circulation tax, it will also trigger a refund of 2 months paid if the job is done before the end of Jan.
If the car is laid up without SORN the next owner will have to pay any outstanding back tax plus penalty charges. This could run on for up to 2 years or more to prove probate.
