Hi Nigel
We have insured our apartment (buildings and contents) yet the committee has failed to insure the communal part of the complex. Is my insurance still valid.?
Thanks in advance.

I can't see any reason why your insurance shouldn't be valid. Why has the Management Committee not insured the building? (The law requires them to do this.)

Regards,

I am not sure why the committee haven't insured the building Nigel. It's probably a money thing. Just as long as I know my apt is covered.

Hi warbler

According to the law, the Management Committee must insure and always keep insured the jointly- owned building against fire, lightning and earthquakes.

Someone needs to remind them of their legal obligations before they find themselves in court.

Regards,
