Our elderly Cypriot neighbour is going into a care home and wants to sell his small apartment. He says he has a potential buyer who is non-Cypriot but already owns a property on the island with Title Deeds. Would there be any problem selling to him? Could the prospective buyer hold 2 sets of Title deeds? Our neighbour is afraid that non-Cypriots may be allowed to buy more than one property but not have the Title Deeds to more than one and so there could be problems for him down the line? At his age, he doesn't need hassle and he doesn't have family to help him.

I'm non-Cypriot and hold title deeds to two properties, so I don't think there would be a problem

I think that used to be the law before CY joined the EU, but it has now need ditched.
We own two properties as well as a plot of land and have the deeds for all three.

Very Happy

Thank you for your replies Smile
Is it dependent on being permanent residents or anything?

When you say non-cypriot do you also mean non EU as well???

Because ASAIK, non eu- can only hold 1 title, although more recently I heard (but not confirmed) that was changed to 2.

If he is non-cup but eu, he can hold as many as he wants.

Hi sandyoap

Assuming you're an EU national, you can hold as many Title Deeds (own as many properties) as you wish.

(There are restrictions on non-EU nationals.)

Regards,

Thank you, Nigel.

The potential buyer is British, apparently holding Temporay CY Residence (MEU1). So currently an EU national - but not for long.

So in your opinion, and in light of the lack of positive Brexit detail etc., to be 'safe' for the vendor, would the sale have to be finalised before March 2019?

I can't say what would happen if there was no Brexit deal.

Regards,
