I've had MS Office 2010 on my laptop for years. Now, after having been away and not using my laptop for 3 weeks, whenever I open Excel I get a popup that says "This copy of MS Office is not activated. You have 28 days to activate. Ensure you are connected to your corporate network to enable automatic activation. Your system administrator can help." Error Code: 0xC004F074

I'm not connected to a corporate network, nor can I. This versin of MS Office has never been connected to a corporate network. I have not downloaded/uploaded MS since I got this laptop just over 2 years ago. But obviously the MS Office is older than the laptop.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening here? Meanwhile I'll have to go searching for my product key code - god only knows where that is.

Here's how to fix it but you will need the original product key:

They're very similar - LibreOffice was ported from OpenOffice when Apache took it over. They're both capable of opening/saving MS format files, you'd probably only find problems with some Excel files (particularly if they use macros, especially Visual Basic macros).

I'm searching for the code (in old e-mails). Any idea why this happened?

(only need the free version) is a good tool for finding product keys.

I'm just wondering if maybe MS and/or you has installed a more modern version of Office. Maybe 365?

Can you check in Control Panel to see any other spurious programs, and remove them?
If nothing there, maybe highlight it in CP and chose 'repair' perhaps.

Very Happy

Not yet. I have found the key code, but haven't had the time to mess with it. i know that these things are not always as simple as they seem so I need t find a time that I can work uninterrupted on it.
