Hi
I hope someone can help me please.

I have been referred from orthapedics at Larnaca, Dr Phanos Andreou, to Nicosia, a Dr Leoni Damascusiou, a specialist. I have nothing in writing, Dr Phanos called me on Friday and told me to go tomorrow at 08.30. I stupidly didn't ask him these questions and when tried calling back couldn't get through.
My appointment is at 8.30, do you have to queue for hours there like Larnaca to register, or do you register in the various departments instead. I have tried googling but cant find the information or the Dr.
Thank you

Sue

More complicated without the referral paperwork but not impossible.

Are you a private paying patient or do you have a Cyprus Government Health Service Medical Card?

On my visits I simply queue at the desk just inside the door , register and pay . Then round to the right to pick up any records you may have. That is the part that can take a considerable time and as they lost my original I have my records at home .

Obviously that didn't work.

Use main entrance to enter Hospital, not A&E where the ambulances are parked. This entrance is opposite the main vehicle entrance and up a slope which is a bridge over a service road. Get there early as the car park is very busy first thing in the morning and parking can sometimes be problematic.

As you enter the building at the main entrance there is an information desk straight in front of you, opposite is a police kiosk. If your Greek is not great there are occasionally English speakers manning the information desk but don't count on it. Hospital maps in English are sometimes available, these maps are good and show a colour coded route to the department you require, the colour coding if not worn away is replicated in coloured lines painted on the floors of the many corridors of the hospital, the same maps are displayed at various points around the hospital.

Now it gets more complicated and I'm hazy on the payment detail.
When you've found the Orthopedic department reception get in line quick, with medical card and written details of referral, just Doctors names date and time at the ready so that the receptionists who generally I've found don't speak English have something to refer to on their system. Although I don't think you should have to pay as its a referral from another government hospital Doctor I'm not 100% certain either way so you'll have to decide. Alternatively you can do as "scottie" says in the previous post.

Providing you get past the receptionist or just ignore her if things don't go your way, look for the Doctors name on the nearby surgery doors, it'll be in Greek as it should be but should still be recognisable, once you've found the Doctors name look for your own name on a sheet of paper stuck to the door, if you find it good but if you can't don't panic and in either case make yourself known to the surgery nurse who polices the maddening crowd. The nurses are pretty good and once they know you are there they will eventually get you in to see your specialist.

Longest I've ever waited with my wife for her to see a cardiac specialist by appointment at Nicosia is forty five minutes. Treatment and after care have been fantastic and our son a hospital consultant elsewhere judged Nicosia in terms of medicine and treatments to be as good if not better than many of the supposedly top rated hospitals he has worked in around the world.

Hi,
Thanks all for all the help and advise.

It was quite painless, Doctor was not there at the appointment time, once she was I registered downstairs so they could make me a file, as never been to Nicosia and paid my 6, back upstairs to Orthopaedics, Nurse took the file from me and I went straight into see the Doctor. Only downside is I may need more surgery Sad Have to go back in December.

It is alot more organised than Larnaca, and definitely more civilised without all the screaming and shouting, and alot quicker, just a shame so far away really.

Thanks again all

Sue
