I've been doing a lot of research in anticipation of a permanent move to Cyprus. It is my understanding that I have to have health insurance to get a residency permit (I am currently a US citizen). Does anyone know if there is a specified minimum coverage that the foreign police will accept (they may have a minimum like $10,000 Euros or something like that)?

Can anyone give me some leads on where I should start looking for health insurance in Cyprus? Any cost estimates for health insurance for a healthy 48-yr single woman?

Thanks
Roseanne

Roseanne,

I am not sure if the requirement for health insurance when applying
for residency still stands. Quite a few people seem to use Atlantic
insurance http://www.atlantic.com.cy or Gan Direct http://www.gandirect.com
(you can get a quote online).

I am sure someone will be along and can confirm (or not) the residency
bit.

HTH

Cheers

Hi Roseanne,

Yes you do need medical insurance to register.
When I registered in march, no minimum requirement was mentioned.
I'm 49 (48 when i took my policy out in february), I paid 215 for standard option with universal life.
I can't comment on how good the policy is because I havn't needed to claim.

Hi!

You could try www.abbeygateinsure.com They specialise in expatriate insurances in Cyprus and would probably be able to give you advice.

Hi all,

Just a question about this - can anyone clarify that if you were intending
to work/run a business and were going to be paying the social security
stamp would you still be required to show proof of health insurance??

Cheers

Hi Steve!

We weren't required to have insurance, but that might have been because I'm Cypriot (although my husband isn't). I have never heard though of this before from friends. Think it might be worth phoning immigration to find out for sure.

Steve,
I'm registered as a dependant of a pensioner (early retirement, I might add), so I can't help on the work/ business question.
If you go into immigration they will give you a list of the things you need.

Hi everyone?Steve,
Just to confuse everyone on this medical insurance issue/registration.Bromerzz who is a regular on here and myself posted our experience at Paralimni Immigration Office. We were NOT asked for proof of private medical insurance and were only asked to produce our European Health Insurance Card.
PLEASE DO NOT JUMP IN WITH "Its only for travellers"
I am only relating what we were asked for.
I am sure I posted a list of what we were asked for in January/February - Steve can you help track it down?
I too am dependent upon my wife being a pensioner as regards free medical treatment. The system works because I have been to the new hospital at Paralimni on three occasions for medication.

Cheers,
Campbell

Pam,
I stand to be corrected but does age not come into this equation. My missus is in receipt of a state pension from uk and because of that we both get free medical treatment/prescriptions.

We went to immigration and was told that if you are working you do not need medical insurance if not then you do. If working you must get your insurance number to take to the appointment, That was a couple of weeks ago.

Hi Sue, We are going to register for social insurance to-morrow, so, now, we have private care when we don't really need it? Rolling Eyes

It does say on the Residence form that you need Medical Insurance frpm a Cyprus Insurance Company OR E111, E121. E106. We have E121 because we are retired.

We are renting for a year, to try it out.
I took early retirement from teaching in the UK, I will be 58 and my wife 51, might do a bit of teaching in Cyprus. We will have our 12 year old daughter with us.
Do you have the E106 for yourselves ? I believe our daughter just needs the E111.

Strange name "Tring" isn't it ?
We stumbled across it 25 years ago
Originally from Plymouth, soon to be Larnaca.Just one look out of the window tells anyone why.
What with the wet summer, it feels like a year since the UK had any decent weather!

Yes I agree with you about the weather, it is so cold at present. We will be moving to Sotira in a months time. Not long to go.

We quite liked going to Berkhamsted too, pretty little place.
