Ok, they caught her, but was the bill paid for from the stolen credit card? I know that in a lot of countries the buyer of stolen goods can be as guilty as the the person who stole the goods. Is the stolen card scenario not the same?

What?

The article says "A 29-year-old tourist who paid for a hotel stay in Ayia Napa with two stolen credit cards was arrested shortly after midnight on Friday." So she use stolen credit cards to pay for a bill. One would have to assume that either she stole the credit cards or that she knew the cards were stolen because they would most likely not be in her name. That is theft and she is responsible.

I think cansweet is eluding to the fact that as far as the hotel is concerned alarm bell should have rung as the name on the passport which should be produced on arrival would be in a different name to the card.

Then of course if the proper card machine was used then a pin number would have been required unless the amount was under 20 euros usually.
