Immersion heaters here are the same as the uk, Most electrical and sanitary ware shops and wholesalers stock them, you will sometimes be offered a cheap one or a more expensive on, go for the higher price they last longer. Average price 12 to 15 eu.
In UK its a 15 minute job in the airing cupboard, budget for minimum of an hour on the roof here they are in an insulated pocket and its fiddly. Stock up on elastoplast.
If you have the proper socket spanner the job is fairly straight forward unless the unit has corroded.
The last one I did in Napa was heavily corroded and disintegrating, I had to use a hammer to break it up and pliers to remove the remaining threaded portion.
The most fiddly part is inserting the wires once the new body has been installed.
Clean the threads in the tank and put a smear of boss white on the gasket and threads so it doesn't leak.
