Just got back from out cruise in the Far East.

I got confused with the different currencies yesterday.

We had a limousine transfer from the port in Thailand to our Hotel at Bangkok about a 2 hour drive which I had prepaid. I gave the driver who was a young Thai and very helpful indeed a 10 Baht tip, thinking it was about 3 euros. I then gave the porter who took our 2 very heavy cases and two smaller ones to our room and gave him 3 Baht which I worked out at about 1 euro.

About an hour after checking in we went for a stroll over to the airport, I was looking at the rates in a currency exchange, it turned out I was getting confused with The Malayan Ringgit.

It turns out I gave the driver about 17 cents and the porter about 4 cents.

I did laugh when I realised, but I bet they both thought I was a tight wad. Embarassed

At least your porter got something.
Some decades ago my first overseas trip was to New York. The porter took my luggage up to my room, stood about a bit. Then he turned on one table lamp, then another, then found another light switch, soon the room was very bright.
I didn't have a clue. I just said ,thanks , the lights are working okay. He then gave up and left.

Know how you feel Kevin. Used up some of our bits and pieces by giving our cabin person a tip probably worth very little but maybe a lot to her. Amazed how delighted she was with the shoulder bag we got free from the petrol station here and put her gifts in.
