Today I learned that my car, which was in the hands of a main street garage in Paralimni; was ticketed on the yellow box lines in front of their property.
The owners were pretty upset as they regularly place customers cars in their access whilst moving others around in their bays.

The yellow box lines are there all along April Street for a reason, to prevent obstructive parking. In this case the garage was using their available crossing space.

In a typical heavy handed logical manner, with revenue a priority, the police have penalised a taxpayer to protect his own access. Needless to say he a Cypriot, was given the "shrug" treatment when he protested at the Police Station. "The ticket has been issued, no discussion, 85 Euros Please."

Somebody has to help pay for their fancy new, yet to be opened police station.

Whilst I am often irritated by haphazard and or dangerous parking here in Cyprus, it seems particularly officious to taken this approach when a few steps into the Garage would have been sufficient to establish whether the crossing was being obstructed by a dumbass.

Meanwhile only meters away cars are still obstructing the pavement and bicycle lane.

Pulling up along the kerb next to the Immigration building and Dole office, adjacent to the Fire Station also appears to be a protected zone for getting away with it parking. Ah but that is a Government establishment! Parking spaces? they are non existent, most are allocated to employees in the building.

If this is the attitude of the police, we can expect to be penalised for encroaching into a yellow box by centimeters because some inconsiderate dipstick, cannot kerb park effectively; without taking up more than their fair share of the space available.

This really strikes a nerve with me here because there are no damn rules. It's one rule for one, one rule for another, one side of the road gets tickets, the other side doesn't.....one car gets a ticket for being parked in a certain way, but one 10 meters away doesn't. It's such bullsh*t.
