Richard Scudamore: Premier League clubs asked for £250,000 towards £5m bonus

All 20 Premier League clubs have been asked for a £250,000 contribution so that the league's outgoing executive chairman Richard Scudamore can be given a £5m farewell gift.

The clubs were asked for the money before a meeting on Tuesday.

It is expected they will agree to Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck's request.

Scudamore, 59, who is reportedly paid £2.5m per season, is stepping down next month after 19 years at the organisation .

Why ask only the PL clubs to donate a quarter of a million?

I'm sure every fan on the UK median wage would be willing to pay the whole of their income for the next 20 years to ensure an equal amount from them.

Does it matter? Confused

In a World where even an average Premier League player 'earns' in excess of £250,000 every single month, what difference does it make that an already overpaid individual, who has overseen such obscene salaries, should receive a similar amount from each club as a retirement bonus?!! Big Money

But it means the ordinary football supporter is paying towards his pay off, when he already gets 2.5 million pounds a year, for doing SFA.

Not at all!

The "ordinary football supporter" pays his money, and where it goes is totally immaterial! Cool

Disagree ! The guy is a multi millionaire. Basically it is like each fan giving him a tip.

Much prefer that tip going to a Cancer charity or similar.

How about the premiership clubs, donate that five million, towards helping grass root football for kids, rather then a very rich, man with his nose in the trough

I think you're missing the point! Rolling Eyes

Of course it's disgraceful when any multi millionaire, in any walk of life, is given even more millions on retirement........still, that's capitalism!!

BUT, no 'fan' is giving him a single penny extra! They have already paid their money at the turnstile (figuratively speaking) and have no control on it after that! Cool

Good news!

Apparently it's not really a bonus, it's so he is available to be called upon as an advisor/consultant.

This suggests a lack of confidence in his replacement, Susanna Dinnage (head of Discovery's Animal Planet):
Quote:

“She is a leading figure in the broadcasting industry, a proven business executive and a great developer of people. She is ideally suited to the role and we are confident she will be able to take the Premier League on to new heights.”

Wholly appropriate, IMHO, given that the 'ordinary football fan' now has the role of background 'colour' to the TV broadcasts.

The PL made had a revenue of UK 4.5 billion in 2016/2017, with higher income expected this year so why the 'informal' suggestion that the clubs pay 250,000 each, with a club like Bournemouth expected to cough up the same amount of money as the likes of the two Manchester clubs?

BTW, rumours of a CBE for Scudamore in New Yera's Honours list, which might mean he could have been getting one but won't if the palace thinks the secret has got out.
