According to EU rules you need to register the car in Cyprus after it has been here for 6 months, and if you take it back to the UK the same rule applies for now.
I would have thought that you would also need to notify your insurance as it may be void if its outside of the UK

I was told yesterday by a shipper of vehicles that he was visited by the Police who were aware he was shipping a stolen vehicle to Cyprus and they removed it after asking nicely for them to hand it over.

I didn't ask but assume they give details of all vehicles being shipped to the authorities so someone must be checking.

Two questions why don't you pay off the balance and not have that worry?Secondly why not get confirmation from the finance company that you have permission to take it abroad?

Cos he has a bubble payment which the finance company set at a date at which the finance matures. Penalty charges for early settlement usually add a chunk to the transaction.

Alternatively he returns the car so best course is to get permission to take it abroad for six months.
