Our View: Napa mayor’s letter shows doesn’t know how to drive out louts

Ayia Napa Mayor Yiannis Karousos’ initiative to rid the resort of ‘low quality’
young tourists from Britain is brave even though it comes across as rather
discriminatory. Then again, the Ayia Napa municipality is perfectly within its
rights to rebrand and reposition itself in the tourism market if it has decided it
no longer wants to be sold as a party destination for youths.

The resort has acquired a reputation for wild partying becoming a very popular
destination for youths from Britain, who spent their holidays drinking, clubbing
and engaging in loutish behaviour. They were tolerated... [

Me too Wink Sticking up a few CCTV cameras isn't going to change
behaviour that much.

Whilst I understand what he is trying to achieve, I think it could have been
handled better as the tone in the articles is not a good one imho.

why name just british people. not the only nationality that get drunk & act badly. the young man that was running naked drunk in bar street & assaulted 2 policemen who were trying to arrest him wasnt british.

then not all of ayia napa is like that mainly bar street & nearby which i would not go to. but plenty of bars & restaurants on nissi avenue that i happily go to with 12 year old daughter. for example Tommys can be very noisy but has a mix of nationalities & ages even holidaymakers with kids in buggies.
