Hi,

My 12 month tenancy contract is up at the end of next month and they want to put the rent up by 100. Can they do this? I'm feeling forced to move and can't actually find anywhere!

Thanks

In a free market, I'm afraid they can ask what they want. Unless you live in a property in a rent control area.

These levels relate to rent control properties only and the percentages are controlled by the council of ministers. Currently, AFAIK, there are no increases allowed until the next review.

Our tenants in our house in Tala, Paphos are paying 18% less than when they moved in 5 years ago.
They are good tenants and there are plenty of empty properties in the area.

The 'man in the pub' suggest that the Cypriot mentality is to keep putting the rent up bearing no relationship to the current supply and demand.

Tell your LL to take a hike! Laughing
