ipad backup to ubuntu

Hi All,
Has anyone managed to backup/restore an ipad to Ubuntu or is this not possible?

Unsure - however when you connect the iPad to the device with Ubuntu or any other OS installed you get a pop up message asking if you want to backup to that device.
I would first of all backup to the cloud as a fall back.

I don't use Apple devices so can't offer an answer that I've confirmed myself, however can you communicate between the two devices using wifi or bluetooth - which might enable you to backup from one to the other.

if you are using Gnone, does GVFS recognise it?

Hi Bromerzz and Kwacker, Thanks for your replies.
When I connect by usb cable the wi-fi is recognised by both ipad and ubuntu, but I am unable to see any directories etc, and can do nothing with it. I have not tried bluetooth.
No, I haven't used libimobile device. I will look into this tomorrow as I will be going to bed shortly. Thanks again for replies. Regards, Jim.

To install iTunes you'll need to run it within a virtual machine or under WINE.
