I have thus far resisted Microsoft's frequent offers to transfer from Windows 7 to Windows 10..... However, having recently purchased a new laptop, the default OS is Windows 10 so have decided to bite the bullet and familiarise myself with Windows 10...

I am having problems trying to work out how to set up/transfer my personal emal folders from Outlook 2007 to the Windows 10 email....

I have exported and backed up my Outlook 2007 email folders as psv files on a USB stick.... Can someone please advise (in easy computer for dummies language) how to import the files into the new Windows 10 email facility please?

Mils

Hi Howard,

Thank you for being part of the Windows 10 family.

Sorry for the inconvenience, the mail app doesn't have the option to import the contacts and emails from outlook 2007. Mail app is just simple mail interface and it is not a full fledge mail client.

Hope it helps. Get back to us for further assistance on Windows related issues. We will be glad to help.

I don't know if the site at outlook.com can import files from Outlook 2007, but if you want a computer based email program the (free) email program

will accept imports from .psv files, there's an installation video at the

Can't you install MS Office Outlook 2007 onto the new PC, then at least you will be using the same familiar email client?

Thus we have the MS confusion ... (Mills said she was using Outlook 2007)

First we had MS Outlook that was an email program (with a few more bells and whistles) and was part of the (paid for) MS Office suite - which is still available

Then we had Outlook Express that was a simple email program that came free with Windows (up to XP IIRC) - this is no longer available

The MS decided to rename their Hotmail service ... guess what ... Outlook

It's quite simple really! Laughing

It is included in Office 365.

Sure its psv, not pst files?

From memory so may be slightly different.
* Save your pst files to your new machine somewhere you will find them
* In Outlook: File, Open, Outlook Data File
* Find and select your pst
* Open
* Repeat for all pst files to open

They will automatically open from then on

Thank you everyone for your responses and suggestions.....

Yes... you are correct adyandkaren the files I am trying to import are pst (not psv)...

Yes.... I can see that there is Office 365 installed on my new computer.....but I found myself sitting here with a USB stick full of emails exported from my old PC's Office Outlook 2007 unsure how to actually import them onto the new PC so that they open in Office 365...

I did try to save the files from the USB to the desktop of the new PC but was told that I do not have enough space in 'OneCloud" and would have to buy extra space....

Sleeves rolled, I will slowly go through your suggestions at the weekend and hope that I will get my emails imported from Outlook 2007 to Office 365.... or a compatible app...

Thanks
Mils

Well, good luck! Very Happy

I *think* Office 365 is a subscription service isn't it?

Do you still have the Office 2007 disks?
If not you can download from MS and it's simple to find the 'key' from your old PC.

Yes Office 365 is subscription, IIRC it's 80 euros/year (or pay monthly but it works out dearer) - but this does allow 5 users 'in your household' to use it. A new computer is likely to have a 30 day free trial before you have to start paying.

I understand that Thunderbird can import outlook, you can find a 'How-To' [url=https://technodiary365.wordpress.com/2017/09/08/convert-pst-to-mbox-using-thunderbird/].

Hi JB...
For clarification....

Are you saying that if I had the Office 2007 disk I could simply download it onto the new Windows 10 computer and that would set up a working version for me to import my emails?

I have got a record of the Product Key for the old computer... but not a disk....
As a matter of interest.... they don't seem to give disks anymore.... all I have been given with the new computer is a Quick Start Sheet.....

I bought a 10" pc/tablet which has no cd drive.
If you go to... I think its Microsoft site, you can download the office 2007 files to your pc, and enter your key. I did this and have office up and running.

Hope this helps

So ... if you don't have the disk ... go here and follow the instructions

I would suggest that it would be better to uninstall Office 365 first - go to Control Panel, Programs and Features find the program, highlight it and click on 'uninstall' in the toolbar at the top of the page.

Good luck Smile

Unfortunately at the link you give you cannot download Office 2007, MS no longer support it.

If Office 2007 is registered on one computer, can it be installed on a second?

Not officially, but if you are no longer using the old PC, then you should be OK.
