That is interesting Paterson, how does it work and do Cypriot banks charge to receive the sterling. I recall before we lived here Cypriot banks charged to put Sterling cash in a sterling account.

I obviously looked it up on Wikipedia Big Wink

but they did not have much info.

Well Wiki does not really say how this SEPA works in practice for the consumer in Cyprus. I am actually interested in that and not interested at all in your indignation because I miss spelt your user name once by accident.

Such an important issue for you Dojo - have the last word cos I am off to another forum till its past your bedtime.

Hi DaveB ,
I have to admit , never used it to bring over sterling, always convert first at good bank rate.
As my bank ask "in which currency" I assume sterling is possible.
Under SEPA rules, there is only 1 charge, the initial 4. My bank did tell me to report back, if CY bank makes a charge, as it is illegal.

From my own experience it is not possible to send sterling to sterling in another country using SEPA, it is for Euros only transfer, I now use CF as the fees are lower and I have found them to be quicker with the actual transfer.

Thanks Tony - it appears very like I and others suggested, to be a similar if not slightly more expensive than currency fair charges. I am sorry we have not been able to help the questioner, but I don't understand why it has to be sterling and can't be changed back from euro to sterling.

Also CF exchange rates are far superior to the exchange rate of your bank when using SEPA. CF wins hands down every time.
