Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel thats turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of it's face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind !
Who thinks up these lyrics?
The son of actor Rex Harrison died five days ago in Devon aged 79.
My era of music from the sixties, and worse I know all the words!
Sad news the song was written by Michael LeGrand with lyrics by Alan & Marilyn Bergman. He loved the music of the French writer singer Jacques Brel recording a lot of his stuff. Windmills is a very haunting song supposedly a flow of consciousness.
Perhaps a little sad that he is remembered for one record.
We have three of his albums, and I always considered him to be, not a brilliant singer, but a very brave one. He recorded songs which I have never heard elsewhere.
It looks as if everyone's forgotten "The Girl from Uncle", as well as an interesting list of films.
Anyway, his recordings still bring me pleasure.
