Old timers will remember her biggest hit 'Tennessee Waltz' (and struggle to forget 'How much is that doggy in the window'), Pattie Page died on New Year's Day aged 86.
She was one of the few artists that managed to make the move from 'old style' music to the new rock & roll, and then became a firm country & western favourite, her last was 'little green apples' (can't remember who wrote it, but it was also recorded by Tony Joe White (of Polk Salad Annie' fame) and The Temptations).
She has several records to her name, including the first artist to 'overdub' her voice (due to a backing singers strike) and the last artist to sell over 1 million copies of sheet music for one song.
