My wife, some friends and I took a drive up to Pyla a couple Sundays ago.
The village is unique in the fact that it is still home to Greek AND Turkish Cypriots, but it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Greeks or Turks, rather the United Nations (God help them). It is a very traditional village, it hasn't yet fallen to the scourge of developers and is well worth the drive.
Unfortunately, while in Pyla, we decided to stop for Sunday lunch at the Village Pub. It looked very promising at first, a beautiful old stone building, a court yard paved in stone, so we decided to sit outside, as it was still fairly warm. The Sunday offering was a 2 course lunch, consisting of a starter (I had the prawn cocktail-which wasn't too bad), and a choice of roast beef, lamb, or pork. A couple of us had the roast beef, 2, the pork and the last 2 the lamb. When it came out you couldn't really tell what was what, it was all shaved, must have been processed meat, tasteless and unappealing. The vegetables were also bland. We were very disappointed. To be fair, the owner was in the UK for a funeral at the time, and maybe the quality suffered, but we won't be going back until we hear some good reports on it.
