Hi all, Are there any yorkshire folk out here. Do you get the micky taken out of your accent. Or have you now got the southern twang!

Posted By: Jan

Hi, Actually we are originally from Bury in North Manchester, Lancashire and have an accent similar to the Yorkshire northern broad accent. We moved to live in Southport on the North West Coast years ago and I worked as a nurse at the local hospital and was always being asked "had I lost my clogs and shawl." Cheeky monkeys those posh Southport folk. Recently living in the Middle East I was always being asked which part of the North of England I came from even after 30 years of being away really. I am proud of my Northern accent it is what makes me me. Laugh about it and stand up proud as a reet good northern mon. Jan.

OH
This is all in such bad taste
Yorkshire folk do not deserve this kind of ridicule

Edit- offensive content removed
Such bad taste
we are not used to this on our site
I went to Yorkshire once and it was shut :x
Still i live in a posh county "ESSEX"
Where the girls insist on safe sex (leaving the car door open)
When i meet my wife who is an Essex girl she had 9 kids all called Scott
Why did you call them all Scott i asked?
So when i call them in for dinner i only have to call on name!!
What i you want one certain child i asked??
Then i call him by his Surname
boom boom
All in the worst possible taste
LOL

Tony, I see why you are a singer instead of a comedian  It would be a start if they were at least funny and didn't have to be dusted off before posting them. Enough of the silliness now as it is getting tiresome. Cheers Steve

For once i agree with you Tony- Yet again your post is in very poor taste which is why i have further edited it this morning.
Perhaps you think you have a talent for " humour"- however your brand of humour has, and is continuing to, cause offence to many members.

Hi Dawn, My other half John comes from Bolton, I will ask him about this Club, it's very strange, the English think he's Scottish, the Scottish think he's English, the Cypriots think he's Cypriot-till he speaks

Posted By: dawnnett

Hi Pam like your post :D tell John i used to live just off st helens rd ...auburn st not far from the town centre Dawn

Posted By: Hogarth55

Hi Dawn, He isn't here, I will spear when i get home. John lived in Milner Street, then Duxbury Avenue, Little Lever, his Dad lives in Horwich, sounds like you two will have plenty to gab about.

I hadn't looked at this thread until today. I really laughed at the mention of Batley Variety Club. Nick is from Bradford originally but now lives down south with me, and we used to go there before we were married. What a place - I still laugh now at some of the antics. Anyway, mustn't let Nick near this post as he's still inclined to say, "I saw him/her/them at Batley Variety Club". Actually, I'm wrong, because as soon as he says he's seen that particular person/band, we all interrupt with "not at Batley Variety Club", much to his annoyment. Dawn, he saw Neil Sedaka there too. And don't him started on Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons!!!!!!!! Memories eh! Anne

Posted By: journeyman

And of course it's near cousin the Wakefield variety Club, now a ten-pin bowling alley I think, right next door to Wakefield trinity(well thats how i remember them) good old days, mind you thats a leeds club come to think of it. Graham

Posted By: dawnnett

Hi Pam, Yes i know Little Lever,.....Hey will do some rattleing to your John :) Ask him if he went to the pallis in Bolton i used to love to Dance my little legs off there :D Hi Anne its a small world i also saw Frankie vallie there ..and lots of others #do you know i think my Brain cells are going faster then normal im sitting here racking my brains trying to think who else iv seen perhaps if i lite another fag it will help :D Dawn

Posted By: Aerionanne

Hi Dawn I'll have to get Nick to jog your memory - no on second thoughts I don't think I could inflict that on anyone! Here's a few that I can recall him saying he's seen and if I can bear it, I'll ask him for some more, although then I'll probably have a whole weekend of it! Jimmy Ruffin Tavares Shalamar Jimmy James and the Vagabonds The Drifters Those were the days. Anne

This is why it feels good to be from Yorkshire   My god, the people in Manchester are muppets!!!!!The council in Manchester installed some retractable bollards to stop people using bus lanes. It's causing a bit of uproar with the public. http://www.biertijd.com/mediaplayer/flvplayer.swf?file=http://media.biertijd.com/movies/200610/onderen.flv&autostart=true&fs=true Sent by my sister-in-Law from Oldham Graham

In our day we had the pleasure of live music, you cant beat it. :D :D The day of the disco and kareoke spoiled everything

Posted By: dawnnett

Yes Elixavet. I feel sorry for the young ones now. theres a lot of diference between Hip Hop !! and be Bop eh Dawn

Posted By: stevecroad

http://www.batleyfrontier.co.uk/ The club is still going strong!! Could be the perfect place for us Northerners (flat caps n'all) to have a knees up. Steve Croad

Posted By: Aerionanne

Oh Steve, it's just as well Nick doesn't look at this site - I can sense a visit coming on! Anne

Posted By: dawnnett

Hi Anne Did you mention to your Nick about bately club ? Dawn

Posted By: marionmitchell

HI dawn and anne i think i must have been at batley the same time as youand , anne husband as i seem to have seen the same people saw neil sedaka nearly every time he came also jimmy ruffin was my fav at the time we used to get trips up from work in bradford, they were the good days marion,

Posted By: Aerionanne

Marion, Nick's from Bradford, so maybe you know each other??? Dawn, have I mentioned Batley Variety Club to Nick? Er no, I want to get through the weekend without strangling him. He's working tomorrow, so I might risk it in the morning, that way at least I'll have the whole day without hearing him sing "Oh what a Night" (and that's just for starters, then we'll have the whole performance). Anne

Posted By: Hogarth55

Hi Dawn, Yep! John knows where you were, and yes, he went to the Palis, said his Dad used to go to the Bately-yeh right! that must have been a fab place, we never had anything like that up here. Anne, John has all Nick's favourites on his computer, we could have a 'remember the Bately night'.

Posted By: Aerionanne

Oh Pam, what a nightmare - only joking as I can be as bad once I get started! I very much look forward to the "Return of Batley Variety Club" evening at Daisys. Just keep the vodka flowing and I'll go through my Temptations and Four Tops routine. On second thoughts, I don't want to clear your bar! Anne

Posted By: Hogarth55

Ah go on Anne :D
