Let the Russians have it all..no more then the Cypriots deserve..they think us Brits were scum and an easy touch Cant wait to se their faces when the country is turned into a crime filled Gheto..or is it already that Classic case of the fish that drank the pool No wonder so many ex pats are heading home..and most of them at a financial loss :( :( :(

Ditto for me too ... I have always respected the right of Chris to express his opinions ... and have disagreed with him frequently
BUT
in this time of crisis, it takes a lot more courage to identify the things we agree upon and fight for the improved way of living most of us wish for. Throwing your teddy out of the pram and saying that you are not going to 'play' any more by buggering off may be an easy escape for some and probably says more about them than those of us who are willing to challenge the decisions of those who would rule us .... by which I mean the ruling elite in Brussels and Berlin.

Another stupid anti Cyprus post that does nothing but cause anger amongst others, why bother posting? Agree totally with all the other replies :)

You've never given that impression in any of your previous posts, Tony!!

Stands to reason you must still have some money for them to be able to place a levy on it! I will be hit like all the others but c'est la vie - I try not to wast energy fretting over stuff I can DO NOTHING about.
It's not more than the hit I took when the pound went down the swanny some 5yrs ago or thereabouts and I was locked into Sterling.
Definitely not more than the last 'financial outfit' did me out of.
I pay tax twice on interest earned - here and in the UK to make up the difference being UK reg'd for taxation. Those who only pay tax here will not be taking the hit people in my situation will.
I do think the previous government should have had the guts to spell it out ages ago.
I am mildly amused by those who consider this even to be enough to see them off. When you think of the long list of reasons most like them give for why they left the UK.
If all you want out of life is to live 'where it's cheapest' you will spend half your life moving around I reckon.
**editing to say the Greek Phrase to learn shown at the foot of the screen has just made me laugh out loud! It was ...
I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH .

What can we do???Of course...set up a "action group",meet up every so often...have a good moan...

Posted By: Tangutica

Oh yeah! An action group! Why didn't I think of that? What shall we call it ... Dealing with darkness? Or ... how about Waiting on the Levy? 8) If they'd consulted me of course I would have suggested that they restrict the percentage they take off me to match the percentage they pay in interest! That would at least halve it! Alas I wasn't consulted - obviously an oversight on their part.

Tony,
Where are you now here or over in Basildon?
Reason I ask I just got back in from the UK yesterday, truth is its no better there than it is here, I have seen a marked change in what is happening over there for the WORSE since I was there last. Its the same shit different flavour I,m afraid, am I going to run back because things are tough, NO, but then again I have balls and tenacity, your comments are ill informed and out of order and thats my opinion for what its worth, same things happen to people over there but you accept it vecause its "home" you teliing me things are good there and people do not get ripped off there too?

It is you that do not hear the truth. Just because the country is asking account holders to lend it 6.75% or 10% of their assets, you try to foment hatred with cruel but untrue words by suggesting that Brits leave the sinking ship, as only rats do. The true Brit disdains these hateful words, mainly because he is more intelligent than those who would listen to your anti-Cypriot racism.
Yes, there is untrue bigotry in this thread but only in the first post:
    Quote:

  • but all they have done is lied to us..cheated us..ripped us of one way or another..to seperate us from our cash....they think us Brits were scum and an easy touch

I bought my house and lived here since 1997 and have never found the Cypriots to be anything but an honourable and generous people, as they were when I lived here between 1952 and 1956. I'm not saying they are without faults - I don't have my head in the sand, as you imply - but you obviously live in different circles than I, if that is your experience or, more likely, you make it known to them your animosity. This is something that the average Cypriot does not like and he may make it known. You can make friends for life here but you can make enemies as well by just a few ill-placed words.
So, go back to your perfect Great Britain, moan away about Cypriots as is your wont. You will be safe in the knowledge that you will never be ripped off, cheated or lied to in that cold, wet Utopia at the other end of Europe! You will also be content in the knowledge that you and your likes will never be missed here.
You make me vomit!

hi smally you will getting shares in the bank for the money thay take out off your account . in the future may be something for your grandchildren kocky ... someone correct me if wrong

Posted By: Tangutica

Ostrich? I think all my comments were made from the point of view of a REALIST. But I don't think I should waste too many words on someone who considers Basildon to be Utopia. I moved here from beautiful laid back South Devon and I still prefer to live here. Would never have considered moving to Basildon even if the banks there offered to add 9.9% to my bank deposits! Anyway it's a done deal. So if you have any money in Banks here you won't be AVOIDING the 'levy' will you? Bit of a pointless gesture in my opinion. Are you daft enough to think ANYONE is PLEASED about it? Of course not. I was shopping around for paint yesterday comparing prices. It just makes me laugh when I think about that today. But then I think I have typical 'Brit sense of humour' fatalistic and if anything can possibly go wrong - it probably will - and a sense of irony too. You seem to be lacking in both of those - sadly born without them? I'm just advising people that, if they want to keep their money safe, find out what I'm doing with mine and do the opposite!

I will take that under consideration! I've put it on my 'to do' list - just under 'world domination starting with a very small country'.

Mr Harte, please accept our best wishes for your departure from Cyprus. Hopefully, for all of us - you included - tomorrow. at the latest

Posted By: Tangutica

I can offer a free lift to Larnaca Airport from anywhere in the Larnaca district. Free all day tomorrow, and the next day .... This really does smack to me of someone who is ONLY HERE FOR THE BEER. Obviously no commitment or love of the country they relocated to. Ergo NO loss to anyone, Cypriot, ex pat or non EU national who actually likes living here and fervently hopes this will get better for Cyprus.

Posted By: geof j

he wants to return to BASILDON???? like Tanq I've moved over from S.Devon which IS a beautiful place, but whatever hits me in this country would not persuade me to move back, Devil, excellent post, was that vomit projectile by any chance :)

Posted By: badger

I have lived in the heart of the lake district all of my 59 years but even after this latest hiccup we still cannot wait for the day we can get our one way ticket TO Cyprus, the sooner the better.

Mr Harte,
The world is indeed a vegetable soup of different characters, personalities, genders, cultures and race groups and indeedy everyone is entitled to have opinions and feelings different to others, there is nothing wrong with this it is life, personally I would just like to thank you for making a dreary Sunday a little more entertaining for me.
Good luck in Basildon and wish me good luck in Larnaca, we both need it I guess

We have lived here nearly a year (absolutely love it, even with this debacle going on) Used to live in Cheshire, lovely leafy town, would I go back? A big fat resounding no, if we had to move from Cyprus it would be to another sunny country. We live in one of the villages and have mainly cypriots as neighbours. We have found these people to honest, hard working, friendly and very welcoming, often receiving a knock at the door with some gift of a local dish that the have made. We have received nothing but help from the locals, may be we have been lucky but I don`t think so. If your OP had not been so full of bile I don`t think you would have had the responses that you have actually. There will be no name calling/threats from me, I hate keyboard warriors. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but allow people to make their own minds up about staying or not in sunny Cyprus.

I have just been to the Salt Lake to walk the dogs and there are hundreds of families there, enjoying their picnics, flying kites and playing ball games. It made me feel really good that they are still enjoying themselves with all the current concerns. Ad all good clean (and cheap!) family fun. I can't remember the last time I saw that sort of scene in the UK!

Purchased our property in 2006...sadly Cyprus has changed, somewhat in the last 7 years. Some of these changes can be attributed to the Cypriot government, some elsewhere.Title deed fiasco,EAC prices[80 million profit last year],1.71 Euro/Cyprus pound exchange rate, petrol has doubled in price, cost of living inflation, would appear to be the salient negative changes in my view.Of course, you can factor in other points, which regularly appear on the forum. This latest debacle only adds to my conviction that the writing is really on the wall for Cyprus, myopic I am not! There are plenty of places on this planet with beaches, good climate, etcetera;my exit strategy is in place. It should be noted that when rats are cornered, they turn on themselves!

If your exit strategy is flexible, combine resources with Mr Harte. The discount will pay for your losses from the "Great Bank Robbery". Just make it fast, so that we don't have to read any more inanities from you. G'bye and good riddance.

Drivel???Depends on your viewpoint does it not?You obviously put a lot of thought into your posts!I forgot to metion in my previous post, that Cyprus may have to sell its state assets, one of which is the port authority.A island with no manufacturing base, the port in private hands...run for profit...think about that. The writing is on the wall...you may not agree with me,but that is my opinion.I consider resorting to name calling rather petty, its hardly reasoned debate is it?If anything it shows that you have no rational argument to my "inanities"
