Pope Benedict XVI in shock resignation
Pope Benedict XVI is to resign at the end of this month in an unexpected development, saying he is too old to continue at the age of 85.
He became Pope in 2005 following John Paul II's death.
..
At 78, the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was one of the oldest new popes in history when elected.

When the Cardinals meet to choose the new Pontiff, let us hope they get the colour of the smoke right this time! Geoff

I understand Demetris Christofiasco will be available and actively looking for a new position at that time . . .

It is sad, but not uncommon, to see how he has deteriorated between the ages of 78 and 85.
Hopefully the new Pope will be much younger than 78, more progressive, and more willing to acknowledge, condemn - and hopefully find some way to prevent - the appalling sexual abuse of children [and adults] by priests. It seems many still take advantage of their 'position' in society and abuse the trust placed in them.
Paedophiles in the general community are the responsibility of the community. Paedophile priests are the responsibility of the church.
The new Pope also needs to be seriously multil-ingual, multi-cultural and committed to productive inter-faith dialogue and understanding.

Look beneath the reports in main stream and there is a black underbelly being hidden in plain sight. http://itccs.org/2012/12/01/update-and-latest-youtube-posting-from-kevin-annett-and-the-international-common-law-court-of-justice/ This is a very serious matter indeed. It appears that Benedict (speaks only good! ), when he was bishop, ignored very real affidavits and depositions from victims of child abuse in Canada ( a la the Irish 'laundries' ) in the last 50 years. If he leaves the protective borders of the Vatican, itself a declared independent state, above all laws which we are expected to follow, he will be arrested and face trial. I doubt whether he, nor the current Queen Elizabeth, also named in this indictment, will ever face the consequences of their actions.
