Just been watching My Greek Kitchen (my favourite programme!) Anyway Tonia was in a village which I thought she said was called Liprovonda, however google doesnt recognise this, can anyone help me out with the correct spelling or pronounciation of this village, as Ive never heard of it. Thankyou, Carolyn Ps if anyone else lkes this programme, I heard they are filming a new series this spring :D

Posted By: suemaloo

i think the town is Lythrodontas, in the Nicosia district. Saved quite a few of the programmes on sky +, watch them when i'm feeling a bit 'homesick'

Posted By: pumpkin

Thanks Suemaloo, Im sure thats the place, sometimes I struggle with how she says things, its a bit fast for me to catch, lol. Have you ever been there, if so is it worth a visit? We have had some lovely days out in and around Kalavassos, where the programme is based, even found the house she rents, and had coffee in the village square cafe that is sometimes seen on the show. Well worth a visit if your ever at a loose end. (thats if you havent already been) Carolyn

Lythrodontas, this is a good 15 miles outside of Nicosia.Tonia is a family memebr of friends of ours who live in the Village and we go up there quite often, never met her myself but my wife does know her to speak with.

I watched the original series where she went around several Greek lslands which was great... but then the second series where its all around Cyprus is even better.. so are we saying they are now doing a 3rd? Steve

Posted By: pumpkin

Yes it says on Tonias web site, posted in Dec 09 that they are filming a 3rd series in the spring! Roll on I say, Ive seen every episode numerous times, lol! Journeyman would you say that Lythrodontas was worth a visit? I know youve been there often, but you have friends there, would you say it was worth the trip from Paralimni just to explore? Perhaps you have inside info where they will be filming? We're coming over for Easter, would be great to watch the action  cheers Carolyn

Posted By: suemaloo

Sorry Carolyn we haven't been there so couldn't say if it is worth a trip. would be good to see the next series being filmed, it's supposed to be about festivals & celebrations i seem to remember. Would it still be based in Kalavassos? Went to Paphos last Easter and tried to get talk the OH & nephew in making a detour to Kalavassos but went to the restaurant Seven St George instead. There was talk of a recipe book based on the series but various things got put on hold due to the recession, I've been saving me pennies and want to be first in the queue for it!

Hi I dont know if the new series will be based in Kalavassos, she seems to have a lot of family around Cyprus, so perhaps they will film somewhere else this time, its still worth a visit though! Having said that it is a very quiet little village, and I didnt see any actual restaurants, only cafes. The last time we went we combined it with a visit to Agios Georgios Alamanos, which is a little closer to Limassol, we had lunch in a lovely restaurant on top of the white cliffs, and spent the afternoon in the gardens and pool, it was one of my favourite places we've found! Unfortunately I raved about it so much, my parents made a special journey there in Oct 08, and it was closed! It seems that it is very seasonal! Carolyn

Love it, I have watched the repeats so many times, I think be a stand in  Looking forward to seeing the new series. :D

Pumpkin, Lythrodontas, yew worth a visit typical Cypriot village , laid back kinda style. Foothill of the Troodos and some lovely walks, our neighbur goes mountain byking in the area. Will make contact with our friends and find out for you if Tonia will be doing her show in the area.

Wow, thank you Journeyman! :P

I was watching tv in Cyprus (one of the local cookery programmes, could have been Mama Kouzina http://www.mamakouzina.tv/ ) when Tonia made a guest appearance on it.. Although I'm well aware that her background is Greek it still seemed really odd listening to her speak in Greek rather than English that I'm used to. I wouldn't swear to it as I don't speak Greek myself, but she sounded like its was something like Greeklish..(you know Greek with English dropped in for certain words...) Steve

Posted By: journeyman

Pumpkin, As I write this I also have Tonia's cousin on facebook who said to ask Tonia to become friends(on facebook) this I have done and also asked about forthcoming TV shows, also dropped a note in there saying about how people on Cyprus eastern were asking about her, passed on the link to Cyprus eastern web site. Not sure if anything will come of it but i'll try my best. Graham

Posted By: AskCy

Graham, which cousin?.. the one we've seen on the show.... the travelling minstral I think Tonia called her... where they came with the instruments and played for their supper ? Steve

Posted By: journeyman

Steve, No dont think it's that cousin, our friend works for a bank in Nicosia, her father Tonias uncle was on a show filmed in Lythrodondas. Just found out myself that my wife has Tonia as a friend on Facebook, and in the early 80's they, my wife, friend and Tonia hanged around together in Nicosia, my wife lived there for about 6 months with her friends family. Regards Graham

Its surprising how small the World can be !. Steve

Posted By: pumpkin

Thanks Graham, I am a fan of My Greek Kitchen on facebook. How interesting that your wife knew Tonia back in the day! Like you said Steve, what a small world! I only started this thread because I couldnt work out the name of the village! Not only have you all answered my question, its got really interesting - thanks! Carolyn

lol - Not only is she a great cook, making fantastic meals, passionate about her roots, but she is also very pleasing on the eye, hence why she is on tv

Marge, Cyprus Weekly gave away DVDs of the programmes with its paper last year. You'll find plenty of copies in the Charity Shops! :D

I will have to hunt down the DVD's for sure now!

Posted By: pumpkin

Yes, i would definately liken her to Nigella, but much more interesting with all her Cyprus adventures! Marge, my husband has the Cyprus series on dvd,  (surprise surprise!) I dont know if your one of the coffee morning ladies, but Ill see if he can make a copy, the whole series is well worth watching! Ill bring it at Easter Carolyn

She seems to be pretty slim with all that food she cooks and eats, I wonder if she really eats what she cooks with all those calories?

If you check out her website (as posted above) http://www.toniabuxton.co.uk and click on "Gallery" then "Athlete" it would appear she used to be a body builder  ....I too wondered how with 4 children she managed to stay so slim....I will give body building a miss...its not attractive in woman or men if you ask me! Thankfully she appears to have left those days behind her and looks fantastic however she stays in shape now!

Posted By: AskCy

Looking at the pictures as instructed, I would say in my semi expert opinion that she looks more like a "miss fitness" type rather than a "bodybuilder"... The former going for tone, definition and shape rather than muscle size etc...

Posted By: AskCy

Thinking about it now.. She also used to be co-presenter on a show about health and diet where she did the diet and her mate did the health.. They went to a group of blokes who would eat curry and play on the computer all day and get the doing some basic exercise, using home made face packs and making their own stifado... !...

I stand corrected....not being an expert in that field, I don't mind

Still enjoying her programmes, I have them on Sky Record, mostly Saturdays. Looking forward to her new series. She does get a bit on my nerves sometimes with stating the obvious, and takes too long when cooking, but I like seeing Cy, when I can't be there. Ruth

Pumpkin,
Hi, was awaiting reply from Tonia to my pm message, nothing happened until Tonia posted a message on her Facebook page......
flying out to Cyprus tomorrow to shoot My Cyprus Kitchen! So excited! Sorry if I don't reply on Facebook cause I'm gonna be very busy shooting the series!
Tomorrow being wednesday as she posted it on Tuesday.

Posted By: pumpkin

Excellent, may catch it yet then! Will keep my eyes and ears peeled while I'm over at Easter Thanks Carolyn

Posted By: AskCy

yeah spotted that post... not sure where she's going or what the series will be about yet...... I did ask... lol Steve

Posted By: kipper889

I love Uncle Eddie, But, I suspect he moans when all the family come knocking and nick his produce. Tonia turns up in the summer with a film crew and strips his farm of all the best stuff!! Eddie is also the one that has to prepare and cook in the Kleftico oven. Poor Eddie!! Hope Tonia pays him well. Ruth

Posted By: journeyman

Kipper, Eddie is one of the funniest men i know, he speaks witha welsh twang and says he discovered Tom Jones(he ran a night club in Cardiff)    He loves his cooking and we have had many a good day there. Also its not just family tha nicks his product...we have had a few things off of him.....
