| Dave,
My mouse doesn't have any balls. |

| I suppose you have the cheek to looks for a serious reply now!!?!
Could be a couple of things. Turn it upside down and take the ball out, if you look inside you will see rollers that the ball turns, these can become clogged with dirt, clean the rollers/wheel completely all the way around by turning them gently, use damp q-tips.
If one of them is really dirty it can "move the mouse" as the ball is not settling properly.
Reassemble the mouse.
Otherwise you may need to reset it in Control Panel if this doesn't work.

| Did you drop any cheese crumbs on the screen, these can lodge in the corners if you wipe the screen!!   |

| Hi Steve,
It's an optical wheel mouse. |

| Hi Bob,
Is it the standard type mouse with ball or something different?
If it's the ball type just open it up - remove the ball and you will
see 2 or 3 roller sensors. Make sure they haven't got any gunk on them
and give 'em a quick clean. Replace the ball and should be better.
Not sure if you've tried the above yet??

Cheers

| Hi Guys and gals,
My mouse keeps dashing off to any one of the corners of the screen.
It is frustrating when I am working using the mouse.
What could be wrong? |

| Bob
You may need to go into "Control Panel" so, click on "Mouse" and check the various settings, these can change unwittingly.
Some of them have a "Tilt" option.

| Hi Bob
So you've got a female mouse then.
Don't know if yours is cordless but whenever I've had this problem it been due to a battery with a low charge. |

| Hi Bob
I agree with Tony on this one - had same problem and new batteries solved it.

| I have an optical mouse at work, with cable no batteries and I had this problem. While I don't know the actual cause I found that using the mouse directly on the desk ie no mousepad cured the problem for me.

| How old is the mouse? If new batteries don't solve the problem, replace it. Mice and keyboards are consumables nowadays. And, as you say, it's so frustrating to struggle with erratic behaviour.

| Hi
Mine does exactly the same, very annoying, it will be okay for a while and then it'll go off on one!
If I have a small window open it'll fly to the window underneath and shut it down. Asked my son who is up on these things and he could only suggest cleaning the ball but it hasn't got one!
So will be very interested if any one has a solution.

| You can go into the optical mouse controls, and there is a "trouble shoting " section. One of the Items says..... "My mouse pointer is moving erratically"
If your mouse is an optical or laser device it does not normally require cleaning. However if your mouse pointer skips or moves abnormally you may need to clean the mouse.
Check the lens area of the mouse for lint or other debris that may have accumulated. If there is debris clean the area surrounding the sensor using a cotton swab.
Note
DO NOT use solvents or other cleaning agents on the sensor
Good luck. Trev.. |

| Thanks for all your suggestions.
I have been into Control Panel and changed some of the mouse settings, I have also changed the mouse mat.
It seems to be behaving itself now.
Thanks again. |
