On me way to work today on a radio phone in a woman said her daughter in Cyprus said was having to pay in cash in shops and bars ect. That a lot of the smaller shops etc were saying they dont take cards or said their card machines were down. She implied it was a case of the shops ect not wanting to add funds to their Bank accounts while this tax thing is going on. On one hand I can go with it.. but on the other i think NO way ????

I'm coming to Cyprus next Tuesday, looks I have to bring some cash with me. I will but how much? I understand that restaurants, shops and gas stations will not accept cards (even though I have them from non-CY bank). But I have to pay for a hotel and rent-a-car. What do you think, should I bring cash for this as well?

With the possibility of the banks going bust you would have to be insane to allow money to go in to your bank account with a possibility of losing it all I would have thought that even you would understand this!
Back to posting your usual b****cks I see!

I used my debit card twice yesterday with no problem.

Used mine too. In fact I intend to try to use it as much as possible right now just to avoid running out of cash and maybe having to queue at empty ATMs. Although yesterday there was no one at the ATM I used on Faneromina and it had money. Just a handwritten note on the door saying Bank Holiday - 19-20 March.

Exactly: This morning I've stopped everything from going into my BoC accounts and can't see me using them again, a guy in the office just had a call from his comparos who works in the Laiki and reckons if the Russians don't step in they won't open again...Very strange atmosphere around Nicosia today, people not sure if they're out of the pan or in the fire.
