Historically many friendly, informative forums have been destroyed by one or two individuals 'flamebaiting' - i.e."a message posted to a public Internet discussion group, such as a forum, newsgroup or mailing list, with the intent of provoking an angry response (a "flame") or argument over a topic the troll often has no real interest in."
"The most popular motive is the desire for attention and the entertainment that is derived at the expense of others." (from wikipedia)
Now, there is an online game - http://www.flamewarz.com
Should read: http://www.forumwarz.com
It might not be as much fun as winding REAL people up, but is amusing in a childish way. You need to type "I am not easily offended" when you first visit the site (treat this as a clue to some of the game's content - in the words of Royston Vasey "if there's anybody here who's easily offended, you might as well **** off now").
For those technically minded, its written in Ruby On Rails & Javascript, and looks fairly neat.

I fully agree and I would ask participants (look it up) of this forum, not to turn innocent threads into provocative (look it up) ones! Most threads are interesting and can be very amusing to all at the expense of no-one; but certain topics tend to be twisted by certain people who I think act in a mischievous fashion with the obvious intention of winding others up, and for the benefit of everyone I would ask that you desist in this pointless exercise and not attempt, for instance, to bring politics into any discussion in an unwarranted fashion. Thanks to everyone and please continue to enthrall us with your valid opinions.

I'm sure that no-one here would disagree with what you write above. I'm even fairly sure that some might even have knowlege of the words you suggest I look up. One addition I would have added to your erudite post - the need to stay 'on topic'. What are your views on the game? have you used your 4 visits for today? What level have you reached?

Agree with all the above but unless you're a machine then at some point someone somewhere has wound you up enough to react. It's called human nature and everyone has differing levels of tolerance. Lets face it, some people do set themselves up to be shot down, whether it be for superior attitude, rudeness, ignorance or some other reason and as far as I'm concerned they reap their rewards. It is a public forum and so long as there are no threats of violence or directly abusive language then it is fine by me. I will not respond to any following comments but will read all with interest RJ

No-one loves a good wind-up more than me, it's good healthy fun and shouldn't be taken seriously. I suggest anyone who feels agitated or upset by this should either lighten up or simply become an observer. The secret of a good wind-up merchant is being able to take it as well as give it out! I think it's important in any forum to inject a little humour, otherwise threads can become very mundane. Whenever anyone takes the p*** out of me, I just have a good laugh and look for a way to retaliate.

That's sad - it was there yesterday. I'd managed to pwn the 'dental care' forum.
Its only been up and running since February/March so I wonder what's happened?
There's some pillocks about, isn't there?

And so did I! Not sure if that's good or bad lol!

Everybody starts as Jimmy-the re-re in the introduction/tutorial. When you get past the 'drooling on keyboard'/ 'banging helmet on keyborad' stage then you can choose your name, and later your role (troll, camwhore, or emokid).
