Popped into our E&S this afternoon - only to find it has now been transformed into AlphaMega. The significant number of empty shelves, which had sparked a rumour that the Coop was going the same way as Orphanides, are now being filled with Tescos loot. Things are looking up. Not that I do much in the way of shoppin' of course. :x

All the E & S in Paphos are gone. I thought it was island wide -perhaps not?

I can think of 2 locally that are open, one in Deryneia and one in Sotira.

Probably not for long, they are deep in the **** and will go the way of Orphanides.

The 3 in the Paphos region always looked so tired and increasingly we felt like we were shopping in a supermarket after an apocalypse, not even any "walking Dead" to keep us company. :D Several of the bigger chains have moved in from Limassol and the east with a better cheaper smarter shopping experience, I guess E & S could no longer compete. What is Carrefour like in the East, here they have taken a big hit from Lidle and I wonder how a French supermarket chain can trade without stocking either Croissants or Pate. :(

We still have E&S in Dali. I am hoping it stays open as I go there quite a bit and the staff are always so helpful and nice. I remember going there one day, it was a public holiday. It was closed but the manager was inside doing some stock taking (or something). He saw me outside and came to open the door, let me come in and pick up what I needed and as the tills weren't open he told me I could pay next time! (which of course I did)

The problem with E&S is that they are run by AKEL, and we all know how competent they are to run a business!

Asked a few questions of people I know yesterday, and apparently E&S has "merged" with Alfamega (sounds more like a takeover). So it is most likely that a lot of the smaller E&S outlets will close down (as already appears to be happening), and the large places will become Alfamega. So the capitalists had to come to the rescue of the communists, seems to be happening a lot recently.
