Hi, Did anyone see Derren Brown last night do the lottery prediction and get the six numbers right?? Of course he is going to tell us how he did it tonight at 9pm but before that - how do you think he did it?? See it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG-5qebwflA Cheers Steve

Wasn't it great? I think it's something to do with the few seconds delay on digital TV. Terrestrial TV is always 2 or 3 seconds earlier than Sky. Ruth

Looking like it was done with a split-screen - as the balls are being drawn, only the right hand side of the screen is live, the side with the balls on is a pre-record, and someone puts the correct balls in, with the images being merged back just before Derren walks across to the balls. he is a fake lol

At 4:20 there appears to be writing already on the card, but when he shows it later there isn't.

Doh!!!! Must you ask? is it not blatantly obvious!?
ITS MAGIC OF COURSE

Watch the part where he walks behind the balls, he does it as if he's stepping over or around something. Split screen or something similar.

I think it is the shadow of his hand to be honest, not writing....but this doesn't change the fact that the balls he chose were still sitting there "apparently" untouched before he picked the board up or switched the tv on?!

Look into my eyes, not around the eyes, look into the eyes, no don't look around the eyes  I'M TELLING YOU, ITS MAGIC :D :D

I could tell you, but then Iwould have to kill you all :D
As Michelle said, its Magic!!
Chris

Actually, I will tell you......
james+mel got it right, it was a split screen.
Must warn you, Magicians tell little fibs, i.e. "There is nothing up my sleeve...." or, "See this empty box...." etc.
Chris

Split screen...? MAGIC!!

Posted By: kipper889

It can't be split screen as he says he is going to show us how we can do it too. I still think it is something to do with the time delay on Sky.

How many jackpots did he claim
Trickery and confidence tricks. Christo springs to mind

its obvisously slight of hand and such... otherwise he would have been able to say here are the numbers "22.33..54,23.,55" etc and then sat back and waited for the numbers to come up... all the putting balls in tubes and waiting till after its been drawn and shown to unvail the predictions just shows you its the normal slight of hand type magic where they predict the card from the pack etc (Same as the mouse under the cups.. it wasn't there until he palmed it there etc)...

Anyone watch it? We are to be non the wiser... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/2634029/Derren-Brown-How-I-forecast-Lottery.html

Posted By: AskCy

yes we watched it and wisdom of the crowds and automatic writing... bah... its slight of hand... its what magicians do !.... yes there is probably some maths and science with the 2 techniques but basically its a magical trick... You know when the magician passes you the card you signed in an envelope then spend 5 minutes waffling and such.. you open the card and wow its not yours now its got your watch in there etc... its all making you think this is whats happening when something else is being done... same here... its all a lot of waffle while he gets the right balls in after seeing the results.. or waiting for the off stage man to put them in or send them up a trap door into the specially built stage prop etc etc...

I think it was probably something like each ball had an LED type display to show the numbers and while he was writing them down on his bit of card, an off screen assistant, or the second camera man, was programming each LED to show the winning sequence.

Unfortunately, in Televised Magic events such as this, there is a lot of "Camera trickery" going on....believe me I know for a fact. Things like David Blaine levitating Imtr. off the ground  Chris Angel "Mindfreak" is full of camera tricks. This unfortunately is not good for the Art of Magic, but if it entertains and amuses you can't really knock it. I love my Art, and would rather entertain/bemuse with "Sleight of Hand" , "Misdirection" etc. Chris

Chris - bless you for knowing how to spell "sleight". There aren't many of us left! Cheers Alex

Posted By: AskCy

Don't think I've ever seen "sleight" written down so presumed it was "slight" ! you learn something new everyday ! http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sleight

Thanks Alex,
not bad for a foreigner aye.....
Chris
P.S..
Just wanted to ask, why were we taught at school, (well I was), that it was..."I" before "E" except after "C"..........when this is obviously not the case?

Posted By: MrsBouvier

ok maybe I'm not so stupid...wasn't/isn't it:
"I" before "E" except after "C"?
Think that is what you meant as it makes sense for this word....oooh all too heavy for a Sunday night
This may be helpful...although can't see the word "sleight" in here...

Sorry teach  I've corrected it. And yes, Sunday eve, English lessons? Narrrr. Chris

For those who are really interested , here is an in depth exposure of what actually happened....

I think the thing with 'magic' these days is we mostly have a good idea how things are done with the likes of Pen and Teller and The Magic Code unveiled type programmes. Even tricks we know can still be greatly entertaining if they are done well (even when you are looking hard for it but can't see it). This was nothing unexpected, either camera/video edits or some palming was what everyone thought would be the way (I don't think anyone actually thought he was just going to predict it !)... There are still some 'tricks' however that still don't make sense and no logical reason can be put to them.... ! thanks for sharing that with us !

IMO Derren should have just stuck with the Wednesday night 'Trick' , I thought it was a great feat, the Friday show was just a waste of time. But, I guess it got us talking... Ruth

Hey guys - don't anybody feel bad about "sleight". I've got a brother-in-law who is very proud of his vocabulary and grammar etc. He has been pronouncing "sleight" as "slate" for as long as I've known him (about 50 years). I haven't the heart to tell him. Obviously the confusion comes from "sleigh", but the authorities assure me that "sleight" come from the same root that gives us "sly". Makes sense to me! Cheers Alex

Pronounced "slit" apparently... http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sleight
