What are you getting at the moment area, preferrably Oroklini area? Looking to change £5000, so could rule out majority of places I think. I can't work out the banks exchange rate, it's as if it's still the CYP they are using. The best in the UK at the moent for £5000 is 5446euro (1.084 exchange rate) Thanks

Hi, For large transactions I always use Money Corp. ( www.moneycorp.com ) they give a competitive rate and if they charge a fee, it's only £15. And as they also give you up to 7 days to transfer the money to there account, there's no need to do expensive CHAPS payments from your own bank, you can just do an electronic fund transfer. Opening an account is easy. €5626 on there calculator (Fri 15 May)

we need a swap shop for currency..! I looked at the rate in UK and they were selling at €1.08 and buying back at €1.18 ! so if you were coming back with lets say €100 then you could "swap" it with someone going out and maybe they would get 1.12 off you so you would both save.... (it works in my head anyway... lol)

Hi. I changed a large amount last week just along from the Meeting pub on Larnaca sea front, I asked for a special rate as I was changing a large amount, she phoned her boss and I got a higher rate. :D I also asked Nicos at the hut in Ayia Napa for his best rate as I was changing a large amount ,again I got a higher rate. :D

So what rate did you get :?: |

Last week I got 1.11 in Larnaca the rate outside said 1.09 I did change a large sum though. Then the hut gave me 110 when the rate said 1.09 , I understand the rate had dropped some mid week. I did see 1.10 in Protaras Friday near the McDonanlds, some were advertising 1.08 the same day further down the strip. I know its not a lot of difference but on a large sum of money every extra helps. I also took my Nationwide flex card but forgot to use it to check the rate with that the same day as I changed the large amount. The flex card might have been better but i would only get 300€ a day I think, that was not enough in a week to pay for jobs to be done. I did notice going through passport control a notice saying if you take 10000€ or more into an E.U. country you must declare it.

pasport control is about money laundering... "proceeds of crime act" Find not declared it, then they assume you are dodgey, declare they seem to think you are ok. I always bring my bank withdrawal slip. Don't know why but why is the rate always better here. Another example of rip off britain......... Now that the government own most of the banks, is it the state that rips us off........wonderful when they told the bank not to charge so high ???? Always bring cash here.

You will always get a better rate for exchanging cash here in Cyprus than back in UK. Always ask if there is a commission charge. I would always recommend Titanas Travel on Nissi Avenue in Ayia Napa. Near Zorbas bakery
