Yep. Someone reversed into my car the other week. Reported it and it was booked in for the following week, it was driveable, and in addition, they gave me a brand new Range Rover 3ltr sport to drive while mine was being repaired.

:( :( :( :( :( Someone put a dirty great pothole in the road near Larnaca yesterday, and in my drivers capacity I was enjoying the scenic farmland around Arradippou  When bam.... One oil sump gone..... Does anyone have any idea how many millions of euros this may well cost? It's gone to the Cyprus hospital for cars, and is awaiting examination, we are hoping it will get well soon, but it looked very sad last night  OH said more than once " didn't you see it? " "obviously not" I replied. But wish to thank Gan Direct for their immediate and quick response, the recovery man didn't know where the hell we where! Thank you to the wonderful Sharon at Petstop in Arradippou ( where we were heading ) who helped us out by guiding him in. Nice people and very helpful. My cats are definitely going on their Hols there. Nice little oasis amidst all the potholes, as well as Ben the St Bernard ( who took a liking to OH) George the pig, a monkey, raccoon, and a very loud parrot. The recovery driver brought sick car and two sick passengers back to Derynia to drop car off at hospital, then brought us further on home to Vrysoulles. It was a quick, no nonsense slick operation which made a freak accident easy to bare. Well done all of them. Now I want to know how much it's going to take off the cost of my outfit for forthcoming very important wedding! All we wanted was a little tootle out to Larnaca a bit of junk food ( a fantastic kebab ) and to see the boarding kennels, it's not asking much is it? :(

Sorry to hear that Lyn....same thing happened to me a few years ago...........the insurance company told me to take it up with the local council as it was their fault the pot hole was there....I in turn raised my voice and told them I had full insurance, and it was up to them to chase the council........seemed to work they agreed and even had a hire car sent up for me...so if you have full insurance don't take any nonsense from them.

Very sorry to hear of this Lyn. If I had known I would have suggested my mechanic in Sotira.
It should NOT be as expensive as you might fear - I guess around 150 euros, assuming they can find a second hand spare sump cheap.
However, if other damage as well - e.g. steering geometry might double that.
The nuisance is not so much the money as having no car, especially this wet weather.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Geoff
P.S. Over on the dark-side (as some call it) might be possible to find spares, loads of Renaults over there. As a last resort. Let me know if I can help.

Wrong again, don't forget I run a 21 year old Fiesta. In Cyprus you can pay rip-off prices for car spares and repairs, or much cheaper.
Last year I was quoted in Larnaca for a top overhaul (ally head) 800 euros. Over in the North I paid 200.
Look Spurs, stop jumping in all the time having a go at me.
What is your problem?
I was trying to help Lyn, nothing else.

His problem and other is, that you reply to almost everypost, with the inclusion of the 'darkside'. You just like to throw it in there relevent or not as a constant reminder to its victims.
You are sick!

Chill out Geoff.........you telling people to go around scrap yards looking for cheapo parts is all well and good, what you should also tell people is that many of these parts are made from aluminium and they are easerly damaged......you quote 800 euro s for a ally head.....yes direct from the factory..then you compare it for a knock off/ second hand one......not a very good comparison Geoff....but yet again in your haste to promote the occupied North you could be costing people money not helping them...this is a public forum Geoff so expect people to pick you up on what you post...........there are plenty of scrap yards here if people wish to buy second hand parts with out running the risk of being stopped at the check point and having to pay duties etc.....ps on the one hand your recommending your mechanic in Sotira, then your telling her you had an overhaul done in the occupied North..... :!: :?

Depending on what repairs are needed, make of car, etc, you go to where it is best value. In my own case this might be 1 of 4 garages. If Lyn needs any help she is welcome to contact me. Geoff

All makes sense now Geoff...a twenty one year old ford fiesta....would need four specialist mechanics/garages

I agree with the opinion that if you have full comp insurance cover - it is up to your insurance company to sort out the repairs.

Posted By: LynSab

Thanks everyone! I already took the car to my trusted mechanic in Derynia, he's not the cheapest, but he does a very good job, so I actually wouldn't go anywhere else, as he is the Renault garage. The cost, seen as I knocked a hole in the engine and took the air con out is 700 + vat. I have put in a claim, hopefully all will go thru, they are supposed to inspect tomorrow, after which the repairs should only take a a day or so. So far I have been pleased with how it's all gone smoothly, it's very reassuring.
